SNAFU: Redskins Make Some Injury Decisions – DeAngelo Hall Activated

news and informationbusiness,health,entertainment,technology

The Redskins released some injury and roster news today, as usual, most of it no good.

As of now, Shawn Lauvao (stinger), Matt Ioannidis (hand), and tight ends Jordan Reed (hamstring) and Niles Paul (concussion) are all officially out for the Seahawks matchup. None of those four are that surprising, but what was surprising was that after finally stirring a bit last week against Dallas, Jamison Crowder was downgraded to out with his hamstring injury.

With five guys on the active roster out, that means that only two of the players currently listed as doubtful, questionable or probable can sit. The rest will have to dress to have the full 47-man roster.

Add to that, that Tackles Trent Williams (knee) and Ty Nsekhe (core muscle) and center Spencer Long (knees) are all doubtful to play – but it seems impossible that at least one of those three doesn’t dress just for numbers. After all, there are already 5 of a possible 7 listed as “out”.

That also means that all of the players listed as questionable would technically seem to have to dress. Wether or not they can actually play is another matter. That group consists of guard Brandon Scherff (knee), cornerback Bashaud Breeland (knee/groin), safety Montae Nicholson (shoulders), linebacker Martrell Spaight (shoulder) and running back Rob Kelley (ankle).

About the only good news was that veteran safety DeAngelo Hall has been activated from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. With a banged up secondary, having Hall to fill in will be helpful. He will likely fill an even larger role as he settles and in gets a bit of game shape under his belt. Good to see him back for his 14th NFL season – you have to admire the grind it took to come back from a torn ACL at 33.

The only unfortunate side shoot of the Hall activation is that the Redskins had to waive newly acquired tackle Orlando Franklin to make room on the roster. While Franklin hasn’t been here long enough to be considered a loss, it might look a little different philosophically, if ANY of the “healthy” linemen go down on Sunday.

Hail!!
