  • Chris Baker: #WallpaperWednesday

After a two sack performance in Sunday’s tense 23-20 victory over the Philadelphia Beagles, Chris Baker is the subject of this week’s Wallpaper Wednesday.

Affectionately known as Swaggy, Baker was a disruptive stud against the Eagles and took full advantage of his added playing time – playing time that he was granted due to playing well of late. Obviously it was a sound decision as the big nose tackle registered his first multi-sack game as a professional.

Click on the image for the 1440×900 wallpaper. I actually made this one in the offseason (and am technically cheating) but it seemed inappropriate to honor somebody else.

Congratulations on a great game Swaggy.

    Hail to the Redskins.

Site Issues With Blog and News Feeds

We apologize for the problem with the Aggregate News and Blog feeds.

Unfortunately a fix is not simple, nor imminent. The tools I used to help create the information are now defunct.

I am looking for an alternative and will let you know if or when I find one.

My apologies as I know many people use the resource to find their Redskins News.

Thanks for your time and patronage at www.thehogs.net.

In the meantime, make sure that you’re following our Facebook page and Twitter Feeds to get all the latest happenings.

    Sonny Jurgensen: Throwback Thursday

In light of the Redskins’ match-up against their division rival Eagles this week, it seemed like a good time to feature Redskins mainstay Sonny Jurgensen.

Jurgensen was drafted by Philadelphia, and played seven seasons there; before being traded to Washington for quarterback Norm Snead and cornerback Claude Crabbe. He played eleven seasons for the Redskins, and incredibly won the NFL passing title in his final 1974 season at the age of forty. He was induced into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with the Class of 1983.

    It’s #WallpaperWesday again at thehogs.net.

    This week…

    Brandon Scherff, as The Punisher.

    Punisher

Seemed appropriate. He may not have been perfect so far, but he has been pretty darn effective, and hasn’t made many mistakes. Keep grinding rookie, your efforts are not unnoticed.

    Andre Carter Oil Painting

When Andre Carter played for the Redskins, he was kind enough to write a blog for us every week. He has always been especially near and dear to us. Obviously with social networks, it’s easier to stay in touch with players past and present these days, and I stll follow Dre on Twitter and am friends with him on Facebook.

If you aren’t already aware, after leaving the Redskins following the 2010 season, Carter played with the New England Patriots in 2011, the Oakland Raiders in 2012 and then again with the Pats in 2013 before retiring.

He recently returned to University of California, Berkeley both as an undergraduate assistant, and to finish the studies he started there. He was a Golden Bear from 1997 to 2000 where he was a unanimous All-American and finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Award.

    But I digress…

At the end of last week, an incredible post popped up in my FB timeline – an oil painting commissioned by Andre’s wife Bethany to commemorate his NFL career. With permission of both Andre, and the artist Absolon, I’m blogging it so that the rest of Redskins Nation can see and appreciate this beautiful piece of work.

    Mistakes Prove Costly For Redskins

You will often hear people remark that no one, single play defines a game, but it would be tough to deny that if you string even two or three really bad plays together, the result will be reflected negatively in the score more often than not. Such was the case on Thursday night in the Washington Redskins’ 32-21 loss to the New York Giants.

Obviously football is a complicated sport, and mistakes are going to happen on every play. That isn’t what we’re talking about. We’re talking about plays that are head-scratchers, or change the momentum of a game, or both as is often the case. Read the rest of this entry »
