Redskins Free Agency Tracker – March 14th

The Redskins have taken their time allowing the market to develop during the first two days of free agency. Last night they lost out on special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander to the Arizona Cardinals. Cornerback Derek Cox, reported to be a Redskins target, chose to sign with the San Diego Chargers late yesterday as well.

Action should pick up over the coming weeks but presumably at a snails pace. The Redskins reportedly did make a signing. Read the rest of this entry »

Fred Davis Running… Fast

Free agent tight end Fred Davis is keeping an open mind when it comes to choosing a team to play for in 2013. It has been reported that the Cleveland Browns are interested in his services and he has also gone on record saying he liked playing for the Redskins and enjoys being in D.C.

Davis has been hard at work trying to regain his form while recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered against the New York Giants in late October. While the tight end market continues to develop in free agency, Davis is still focusing on his recovery.

What separates athletes from average Joes, especially when recovering from an injury? If anyone is wondering how he looks running almost five months after suffering the injury, we have some proof. Here is video of Davis going for a run on a treadmill at an Ashburn gym this afternoon. The video was shot by his brother.

He seems to be running pretty well if you ask me.

Redskins Free Agency Tracker – March 13th

The Redskins opened up the first day with barely a peep. The team retained punter Sav Rocca and defensive lineman Kedric Golston. It was also revealed through Twitter that the One Man Gang, Lorenzo Alexander, would be signing with a new team to be determined.

As the more expensive free agents are taken off the market, the Redskins should get more active with scouting affordable B and C level talent.

Interview with Doc Walker: Part 2

In Part 2 of our interview, we continue where we left off. Doc gives his thoughts on if the Redskins have a chance of recouping some of the lost cap money and evaluates the tight ends not named Cooley. Walker also explains how the Redskins will prevent a sophomore slump for Robert Griffin III and gives his bold prediction on how Alfred Morris will do in 2013.

The Good, The Bad and The Fugly

Losses hurt. Division losses really hurt. Division losses thrown away in the waning moments of the game? Daggers.

Here’s the Good, The Bad and The Fugly from the New York Giants upsetting 27-23 upset of the Washington Redskins.

The Good

Robert Griffin III… surprise!!! Yeah it may seem like a broken record to those outside of the nation’s capital, but there isn’t a Redskins fan on the planet that is going to get tired of gushing about just how good this kid is. How about that 4th and wow? Arguably the play of the year so far in the NFL. Read the rest of this entry »

Camp Battles: Tight Ends

Redskins’ fans have had many worries in the past, but one of them has not been the tight end position. Chris Cooley has been the guy, period. Last season that changed, but fans discovered that the team had another card they were keeping close to the vest, Fred Davis. Of course that hope was crushed as Davis was suspended for the final four games and has since been busy playing out his own off the field soap opera. So now what? Training camp is less than two weeks away and the TE camp battle should feature some fierce competition, especially now that Niles Paul has been added to the mix. Let’s take a look at the entire TE picture heading into camp. Read the rest of this entry »

Griffin Just Has ‘It’

Did you catch the nice blog on NFL.com about Robert Griffin III shooting a Subway commercial in Texas?

I joke, but I’m just not really sure why the piece led with that tidbit, when the title and crux of an otherwise good piece, is that a bunch of Redskins are heading down to Texas for a friendly game of pass and catch with their rookie quarterback. Read the rest of this entry »

Cooley Comeback Begins

With the opening of the offseason training activities (OTAs) on Monday, the Redskins coaching staff got their first look at the entire 90-man roster at once*, and in doing so, began the arduous process of paring that 90 down to 53. One of the guys that surprisingly seems to be on some people’s bubble, is returning stalwart tight end Chris Cooley.

Cooley was plagued with injuries from the start last year, and ended up on the injured reserve list for the second time in three years. That has many questioning his durability, and his ability to return to the form that he once showed. I don’t have a problem with people questioning those things, it’s those that are indignant that he can’t possibly be of any use to the Redskins whatsoever, that have me baffled. Fred Davis Parody Headlines

As of today, NFL teams can use their franchise tags, so Redskins Nation looks on in anticipation to see if the Washington Redskins use their tag, and if so, who will they use it on?

While Laron Landry and London Fletcher are both potential franchise tag candidates, it’s probable that the Redskins will use their tag on tight end Fred Davis. After a monster breakout season, that came crashing to a halt when he tested positive for (expected) marijuana use – the franchise tag is an excellent option for Washington as it allows them to sign Davis to a short term deal.

Which in turn allows them a shorter leash.

Knowing that Davis will likely be franchise tagged, I couldn’t help but take to Twitter and have some fun with potential Fred Davis parody headlines; so I started the hashtag #topFredDavisHeadlines for shiggles. It seems like this is also a great opportnity to see how the new Twitter embed feature works within WordPress. So here are some of my tweets this morning: Read the rest of this entry »
