By The Numbers: Redskins vs Titans

Here are the important statistics and numbers for Washington’s narrow 19-17 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. It may not have been the prettiest of wins, but it ended the losing streak regardless, and hopefully put the now 2-5 Redskins back on the winning path. The Titans fell to the same mark of 2-5.

351 – Total net yards for the Redskins, to just 236 for the Titans.

160 – Yards passing for Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, on 17 receptions (26 attempts, 91.8 rating).

139 – Yards passing for Kirk Cousins, on 10 completions (16 attempts).

138.9 – QB rating for Colt McCoy. Contrast that with the 64.3 that Cousins put up on basically the same number of yards. Read the rest of this entry »

By the Numbers: Jaguars

Here is a look at some of the more interesting and telling statistics and numbers from the Washington Redskins’ 41-10 dismantling of the Jacksonville Jaguars

449 – Yards of total offense. Not bad for a first year coach in just his second game, and missing his starting quarterback, his number 2 wide receiver and his tight end.

250 – Yards passing for Kirk Cousins. it was as solid a performance as you could ask for from your back-up quarterback. He finished the day at 22 of 33, but completed his first TWELVE passes.

191 – Yards rushing for Washington. The offensive line was stalwart against the Jags, they opened holes for everyone, especially between the tackles.

148 – Anaemic total yards for Jacksonville. Great job Redskins defense! Read the rest of this entry »

Best and Worst: Redskins Versus Texans

At times, it was painful. At others, blissful. So goes the average game for an armchair quarterback. Here are a collection of the best and worst moments from Washington’s 17-6 loss to the Texans in Houston on Sunday.

Best Redskins Debut: Jason Hatcher
He registered his first sack in his first game, and was disruptive for much of it. He got nicked up in his first action in the burgundy and gold, but managed to return. He’s pretty good. Read the rest of this entry »

Tonight’s Top 5 Watch List

Everybody likes to watch different elements in the preseason. Here are the top 5 guys that I’ll have my eye on tonight:

RGIII

Yeah, yeah, yeah. He won’t play much… it might be vanilla… he might hand the ball off half the time or more. Does any of that really matter?

Absolutely not. A new era begins for Washington tonight. Regardless of the lack of importance of the performance or the results, don’t try to tell me that Robert Griffin III isn’t the numero uno thing to watch tonight.

I’ll be watching him even when he’s done playing and just standing on the sidelines. So will you. Read the rest of this entry »

Camp Battles: LineBackers

The Redskins linebacker group has had a tough couple of seasons after transitioning to the 3-4 defense. The 3-4 is a defense that works much better with a lead. However, with the lackluster performance the offense has displayed the defense has been tasked with keeping the team in games rather than attacking at will like it is designed to do. Most of the linebacker group was either a part of the transition from the 4-3 at a different position or came from a team where they played defensive line. The staff seems to have a knack for finding players that can make the transition well though, with Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo being super examples. In 2011, the team had good starting players but, depth was an issue, mainly because of inexperience. In 2012 however, the linebacker camp battles we will witness will be epic. If the defensive line and secondary can play better this season, the Redskins linebackers could rise to be the top threat in the NFC East. Let’s get to know a little about this group of players. Follow Friday – ‘New Redskins’ Edition

There are are a lot of new faces at Redskins Park these days, especially today as the Redskins kick off the offseason schedule with the Rookie Mini-Camp. Combine that, with the fact that it’s Friday, and that means Follow Friday on Twitter, I thought it would be prudent to put together a (hopefully) comprehensive list of the twitter handles of all the new blood.
