Redskins Free Agency Tracker – March 14th

The Redskins have taken their time allowing the market to develop during the first two days of free agency. Last night they lost out on special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander to the Arizona Cardinals. Cornerback Derek Cox, reported to be a Redskins target, chose to sign with the San Diego Chargers late yesterday as well.

Action should pick up over the coming weeks but presumably at a snails pace. The Redskins reportedly did make a signing. Read the rest of this entry »

Redskins Free Agency Tracker – March 13th

The Redskins opened up the first day with barely a peep. The team retained punter Sav Rocca and defensive lineman Kedric Golston. It was also revealed through Twitter that the One Man Gang, Lorenzo Alexander, would be signing with a new team to be determined.

As the more expensive free agents are taken off the market, the Redskins should get more active with scouting affordable B and C level talent.

Interview with Doc Walker: Part 2

In Part 2 of our interview, we continue where we left off. Doc gives his thoughts on if the Redskins have a chance of recouping some of the lost cap money and evaluates the tight ends not named Cooley. Walker also explains how the Redskins will prevent a sophomore slump for Robert Griffin III and gives his bold prediction on how Alfred Morris will do in 2013.

Recognized! Redskins Hawaii Bound

The Washington Redskins will have five players at this year’s Pro Bowl – three selections and two alternates.

Robert Griffin III, Lorenzo Alexander, and Trent Williams all earned their first career Pro Bowl selections. In Griffin’s case, he becomes just the second rookie quarterback to ever be named to the Pro Bowl – Dan Marino was the other.

London Fletcher and Alfred Morris were also selected as alternates.

The presence of five Redskins players in Honolulu marks a definite change in national opinion. Griffin’s incredible rookie season, combined with peeling off 6 wins in a row, has put Washington back in the public football eye.

The Pro Bowl game itself is and still will be garbage and pointless, but it’s great to see the five guys being recognized – every last one of them deserves the honor bestowed on them.

Congratulations.

Ten Game Thoughts: Vikings

It was another roller coaster ride for Redskins Nation on Sunday, as the Redskins struggled early, and then struggled to put the Vikings away after dominating through most of the middle of the game. In the end, Robert Griffin III’s two rushing touchdowns, proved more than Minnesota could handle, and allowed Washington to come away a 38-26 victory – their first home win in nine tries. The loss ended a three game winning streak for the Vikings, and dropped them to 4-2 on the season.

Five Quick Thoughts: Falcons

It was yet another tough experience for Redskins Nation, as Washington had every chance to hand Atlanta their first loss of the season; but in the end, it was the Falcons who came out on top 24-17. Here are some quick thoughts on the game:

1) Robert Griffin III – Obviously the collective breaths of every Redskin fan on the planet, were held tight, when RGIII was drilled in the head. Mildly concussed, he wouldn’t return. Hopefully RGIII will recover quickly and be ready for next week, but will this be a wake up call to the importance of sliding for the young rookie? Tough is tough, but you don’t have to be careless to be tough. He needs to learn to protect himself a bit better, and live to fight another down. It’s hard to even suggest to someone with the kind of fire and integrity that RGIII has, that he should take the ‘easier route’ but that’s what he needs to do. His team needs him – for more than any one game, or any one play. Read the rest of this entry »

Camp Battles: LineBackers

The Redskins linebacker group has had a tough couple of seasons after transitioning to the 3-4 defense. The 3-4 is a defense that works much better with a lead. However, with the lackluster performance the offense has displayed the defense has been tasked with keeping the team in games rather than attacking at will like it is designed to do. Most of the linebacker group was either a part of the transition from the 4-3 at a different position or came from a team where they played defensive line. The staff seems to have a knack for finding players that can make the transition well though, with Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo being super examples. In 2011, the team had good starting players but, depth was an issue, mainly because of inexperience. In 2012 however, the linebacker camp battles we will witness will be epic. If the defensive line and secondary can play better this season, the Redskins linebackers could rise to be the top threat in the NFC East. Let’s get to know a little about this group of players.
