Redskins 2013 New Era Draft Hats

Back in January, the NFL gave us a sneak peek at the new NFL Draft caps on their Instagram page. In the background, you can see the Redskins new hat at the top .

Having searched frivolously for more pictures of the Redskins new set of Draft Hats for the past few weeks, my efforts came up empty until today.

“The 59FIFTY fitted cap will be worn by players on draft day while friends and family will receive the 9FIFTY snapback and 39THIRTY stretch fit to wear,” said Katie Kulczyk, Corporate Communications Manager at New Era. “All will be available for purchase in April.”

No, the Redskins don’t have a first round pick and aren’t slated to make a pick until 51st overall, which means that more likely than not, whoever they select will not be in New York to wear his hat. However, fans of every team eat up this kind of stuff.

Without further ado, here is the new set of Redskins Draft Hats, courtesy of New Era. Read the rest of this entry »

LeRibeus In Third

With the 71st selection in the 2012 NFL Draft – the Washington Redskins selected Josh LeRibeus, Guard from SMU. The Redskins originally held the 6th pick in the 3rd round (69th overall) but dropped two spots with the Buffalo Bills to 71, and picked up an extra 7th round selection on Saturday (217th overall).

LeRibeus seems a bit of a reach in the third, as he was projected to be a mid-to-late rounder by many draft pontiffs. Having said that, he’s a road grader with a mean streak that could actually fit in quite well in a zone blocking scheme.

Draft guru Mike Mayock described him thusly, “He’s a tough guy. Short arms, but he’s got a nasty disposition.”

The Redskins now have 6 selections left on day three of the draft – two 4th rounders (102nd and 109th from Raiders), a 5th (141st), a 6th (173rd from the Vikings) and two 7ths (213th and 217th from Bills).

If Vinny Were Here

I had a funny daydream about the NFL Draft that I wanted to share… I call it… “If Vinny Were Here.”

I found myself bemused by people still worried about the draft and the Redskins getting Griffin, and what on earth could possibly go wrong? So of course I thought of My Cousin Vinny. Read the rest of this entry »

RGIII Thoughts

Been a minute since I blogged something – had some family strife to deal with, and life got in the way, but on a day of most significance to Redskins Nation, it seemed prudent to pen a few thoughts.

Well unless you crawl under a rock for the entire NFL offseason, you’re probably aware that today is the opening of the 2012 NFL Draft in New York. If you are under a rock, then you won’t be reading this anyway, so I’m going to presume that you know what’s what.

Today is the day that the Washington Redskins select Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick in the draft – a pick that they paid dearly to move up and get – but a move that they desperately needed to make. Read the rest of this entry »

So Let It Be Written…

… So Let It Be Done.

Last night the Washington Redskins put out a second mortgage on their house, and with the proceeds, they are going to go out and buy a shiny new toy on April 26th at the NFL Draft. It is reported that Washington have traded their next THREE first round picks and a second round pick, to the St. Louis Rams for the number two overall pick. Did they pay too much? The Rise and Fall of the Senior Bowl

It’s amazing that one game, an all-star game at that, can have an impact on a young college football player’s draft stock. Four years of playing with your peers is obviously nowhere near as telling as one week with all-stars – in a vanilla play environment – with vanilla rules – with vanilla preparations. Removing my tongue from my cheek, here are some guys that really helped themselves last week in Mobile:

Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
His only knock is that he isn’t consistently great; but he was great all week at practice, had a sack and three tackles, to post a near-great game as well. He won’t have to wait long to hear his name called at the 2012 NFL Draft, and his impressive Senior Bowl week could prove to make that wait even shorter. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 NFL Draft – At First Glance

With the Saints’ inspiring win in the Super Bowl behind us, and the NFL combine looming, draft time is in full swing. For the Washington Redskins, the main question on everybody’s mind is whether they will take an offensive tackle or a quarterback with their first round selection. There is always the possibility that they will take neither, as there will be talented players at other positions, and the Redskins aren’t really set anywhere other than Tight End. However, in all likelihood they will be looking to aid one of the worst offensive lines of all time with an elite left tackle, or groom a young quarterback to be Mike Shanahan’s guy. Both of those positions currently include two players that could interest the Redskins, who own the fourth pick overall in the draft. Read the rest of this entry »
