Redskins Beat Eagles And Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Carson Wentz drove the Philadelphia Eagles all the way down to the 14-yard line in the game’s dying moments, before Ryan Kerrigan’s eleventh sack of the season, and arguably the most timely, ended their drive, and gave the Washington Redskins a 27-22 victory. Washington ended their two game losing streak, and kept pace with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card playoff hunt. Check all the NFL odds and scores.

Kirk Cousins had a rather pedestrian day with just 234 passing yards, but he threw two touchdown passes, including an 80-yard bomb to former Eagle DeSean Jackson. That gave Washington a 14-13 lead in the third quarter. He then hooked up with Pierre Garcon for another touchdown, and a 21-13 lead.

The joy was short lived though, as Cousins would then throw an interception to Leodis McKelvin, and he would return it 29 yards to the Redskins end zone for an Eagles score, and gave them some momentum. But at 21-19, the Eagles went for two and failed to convert when a pass to Jordan Matthews was batted down. Read the rest of this entry »

Flashback Friday: This Day in 1934

On this day, October 21st waaay back in 1934, the Boston Redskins defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 6-0.

Rather than offer up some pallid game reference, I thought I would post a great excerpt I found at a site called FenwayParkDiaries.com:

Boston and Battles beat Philadelphia

October 21, 1934 … Displaying superior rushing ability, but balked by penalties and fumbles for three periods, the Boston Redskins called upon the fighting ability of Cliff Battles to score the touchdown that pulled out a 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Fenway Park. On two previous occasions, the Redskins shot the ball over the goal only to have the scores called back because of penalties. Once a fumble on the two-yard line stopped a touchdown and twice, intercepted passes inside the 10-yd line halted the Redskins.

he first non-touchdown, a 22-yd run by Steve Hokuff was called back because of and offside penalty. Early in the third period, the Redskins marched 82 yards to the 10-yard line where Cliff Battles notched the score, only to have it called back for a back in motion before the snap. The game was just too much Cliff Battles

Eagles Trying to Tackle Injuries

Word is that King Dunlap may not be able to play on Sunday, and that could become the Achilles heel for the Philadelphia Eagles. Dunlap was expected to play in place of starter Jason Peters, who was officially ruled out of this week’s action.

Not only do the Eagles have to go three deep at left tackle if King can’t go, but the only other option they have, is to play Todd Herremans at left tackle. At first glance, that wouldn’t appear earth-shattering as Herremans is listed as the right tackle, but what a depth chart won’t tell you is that he was already playing out of position. Herremans is naturally a guard. Read the rest of this entry »

Recapping Day 3 of Redskins Free Agency

The Redskins made their biggest move of the day early Thursday morning by shipping disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. This ends a dark chapter because Haynesworth is widely viewed as arguably the biggest free agent bust in franchise history, which should say something. Ironically, Haynesworth heads to another team with a 3-4 defense and a coach regarded as even stricter than Mike Shanahan in Bill Belichick.

Musings from Curmudgeon Corner 4/5/2010

Posted from Curmudgeon Corner, Maine

I’m worried. I’m uncharacteristically optimistic. That frightens me, a bit.

Yesterday evening, the Eagles and Redskins finalized a deal, sending future Hall of Fame quarterback, Donovan McNabb to the Redskins in exchange for the 37th pick this year, and the Redskins’ 4 round pick next year (3rd round of certain performance measures are reached by McNabb). Leftovers – Week 10

Andre

In this week’s edition of Leftovers, Andre Carter clears the air about his role on the team, how frustrating the Lions loss was, what kind of impact Brandon Banks’ injury could have if he doesn’t play against the Eagles, and what he thought of Coach Shanahan’s reasons behind benching Donovan McNabb.

Keep in mind the Brandon Banks questions were asked before Coach Shanahan said that there’s a chance he may play Monday night against the Eagles.
