Losers?

Some losses hurt more than others. There isn’t really a formula for what makes these games different than the rest, just an even more empty feeling when they do happen. Such was the case for the Redskins 27-7 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. It hurt. A lot.

Was it because the loss was at home, and our home fan base had to endure that debacle?

Maybe partly, but Redskins fans have grown accustomed to Fed Ex Field not seeing a lot of victories. I always find it tough to watch my peers boo the product on the field though, but I understand their chagrin. Read the rest of this entry »

Redskins Preparing for Free Agency

Entering free agency with an abundance of cap space gives the Redskins lots of options to fill plenty of needs, even after re-signing cornerback DeAngelo Hall, defensive tackle Chris Baker, safety Jose Gumbs and franchising linebacker Brian Orakpo.

The Redskins dropped off dramatically after a division title in 2012. Following a 10-6 season they returned back to the NFC East basement in 2013 with a 3-13 record and no first-round pick to show for it.

That, coupled with their $36 million cap penalty for 2012 and 2013, makes this free agency period more important than normal.

Washington was tied with the Chicago Bears in 2013 for allowing the second most points points per game (29.9), which means the defense, specifically the secondary, will be a high priority in this free agent class.

So who might the Redskins target to improve their roster? Let’s take a look at who the team reportedly has their sights set on based on reports from local Redskins beat writers. Read the rest of this entry »

Observations from Redskins at Buccaneers

Keeping in mind that this blog is in the context of analyzing reserves in the fourth preseason game, there was plenty to take away from Washington’s 30-12 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Read the rest of this entry »

Bucs Error the ‘Skins Gain

I was baffled… still am… by the firing of Raheem Morris by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is a man who deserved some patience on the part of ownership. This decision will come back to haunt them, some day. He is an extremely competent football mind, whom, I’m confident, will win his share of Super Bowls as a head coach somewhere, some day. Recapping Day 3 of Redskins Free Agency

The Redskins made their biggest move of the day early Thursday morning by shipping disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. This ends a dark chapter because Haynesworth is widely viewed as arguably the biggest free agent bust in franchise history, which should say something. Ironically, Haynesworth heads to another team with a 3-4 defense and a coach regarded as even stricter than Mike Shanahan in Bill Belichick.

They Won? Sorry… I’m Waiting for the Other Shoe…

Posted from Curmudgeon Corner, Maine

Ok, I admit it. The homer in me is thrilled with the result today.

The Redskins got a W. The offense found a little of it’s mojo, albeit not until the second half, with both a rare Redzone touchdown, and an even rarer deep strike for a 59 yard touchdown. The defense played pretty tough, and got the plays when they needed them. They consistently got off the field on third down. Tackling was solid. Read the rest of this entry »
