It was a convincing 27-6 victory for the Washington Redskins over their arch-rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Here is a look at the most significant numbers from Sunday's game:
244 - Yards through the air for the new hero in Washington - Todd Collins. Once again, the veteran played near error-free ball and led his team to victory.
147 - Total yards of offense for the Cowboys, who went into the game averaging over 380 yards per game.
128 - Quarterback rating for Collins (22 of 31, 2TD, 0 INT).
115 - Yards receiving on 8 catches for Santana Moss. After battling nagging injuries all season long, is Santana finally close to healthy? He looked it on Sunday, especially on the 42-yard touchdown bomb from Collins that sealed the game in the 4th quarter. Moss had just two 100-plus yard games this season - both against the Cowboys.
104 - Yards rushing for Clinton Portis against Dallas. In a season that saw Portis notch a 196-yard game, Sunday's total might seem a little light to be over-celebrating; but when you consider that until this week, the Cowboys had not allowed a single 100-yard rusher all season long, it becomes considerably more significant. Clinton has posted two consecutive 100-plus-yard games, against two of the league's best run defenses.
86 - Yards passing for Tony Romo, despite playing into the third quarter (before being replaced by Brad Johnson).
37 - Minutes of ball possession for the Redskins, out of a possible 60 minutes. Wow, that's Joe Gibbs football at it's finest.
30 - Points per game was what the Cowboys came into Sunday's action averaging. They couldn't manage a single touchdown and scored just 6 points against an inspired Redskin defense.
7 - Yards rushing for Julius Jones - he led all Cowboy rushers.
4 - Interceptions for Shawn Springs in the last 4 games. Springs picked off a Tony Romo pass in the 1st quarter.
2 - Big sacks for CFL import and 3rd down specialist Chris Wilson. That gives the rookie 4 sacks on the season in just 8 appearances - and very limited appearances at that - very impressive.
2 - Field goals for Shaun Suisham. Seem insignificant in a 21-point victory? Keep in mind that with the 2-for-2 day, Suisham finished the season 29-for-35 for a completion percentage of 82.9% - the second best percentage EVER for a Redskin kicker. Mark Moseley's near perfect 1982 season of 21-for-22 is the only season total to ever better Suisham's 2007 season. Congratulations to the young Canadian on a tremendous, virtually unheralded season.
1 - Rushing yard for the Dallas Cowboys. That's right, one total yard on the ground. It's the lowest total ever for the Cowboys (previous record was 8 yards)
0 - Third down conversions for the Cowboys on 11 attempts.
-6 - Yards rushing for Marion Barber; that's right, NEGATIVE 6 yards on 7 carries. Going into the game, the tough Dallas back needed less than 20 yards to finish the season with 1000. Instead, he finished up with 975 total yards - what a shame.
And so the Redskins go in search of some new numbers, some playoff numbers. What an incredible accomplishment considering the adversity that this 2007 Redskin team has faced.
