The Washington Redskins run game all but disappeared on Sunday, with the loss of Clinton Portis and Ryan Torain the team is desperate to have one of the other backs on the roster step up. Keiland Williams and James Davis combined for 16 yards on nine carries last week, as a team the Redskins only gained 29 yards on Sunday. On Wednesday, rookie Shawnbrey McNeal became the 12th running back the Redskins have had on either the active roster or the practice squad this year when he was signed to the practice squad as running back Kestahn Moore replacement.

Getting Ryan Torain back could help, because he has shown an ability to follow blocks well and has cutback ability, last week the Redskins didn't have a running back with a run longer than four yards

News & Notes:

— The Redskins worked indoors at a Northern Virginia facility on Wednesday because a rainstorm made the fields at Redskins Park too wet for practice. The Redskins do not not have a indoor facility at Redskins park and previously practiced in an empty hangar at nearby Dulles Airport on bad weather days. The team used a basketball court, instead of the floor of the hangar, which was descried as “a little bit slippery."

— The Redskins added wide reciever Maurice Price to their practice squad to replace WR Terrence Austin, who was promoted to the active roster on Saturday. Price was undrafted out of Charleston Southern in 2007 and has never played in a regular season game.

— The NFL announced that full refunds will be given to general admission seats for all preseason and regular season games canceled by a work stoppage in 2011, the NFL refunds will not extend to Personal Seat Licenses or club and luxury seats.  Teams will decide on an individual basis how to handle the PSLs and more expensive seats. On Wednesday the Redskins announced that the 2011 refunds will apply to all seats, general admission, suites and Premium Club among them. Season ticket holders can either receive a traditional refund or can apply it to future seats. The team noted that general admission prices have remained the same since the 2006 season and the price will not be going up in 2011

— Guard Artis Hicks was benched last week in favor of Will Montgomery after two series. He said after the game that his ailing thigh/groin was not an issue, and that he just didn’t get the job done.

— Running back James Davis cut into RB Keiland Williams’ rushing attempts last Sunday because the Redskins wanted to see how Davis would perform in real game situations after keeping him on the practice squad for a month.

— Pro Bowl voting for fans closes on Dec. 20, Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander is fourth among special teams players, Chris Cooley is fifth in the NFC among tight ends, Brian Orakpo is third in the voting for outside linebackers, Mike Sellers is the second-leading vote-getter among fullbacks, DeAngelo Hall is second among cornerbacks, and LaRon Landry has a 49,000 plus vote lead among the strong safeties.

— "I'm not going to say he's definitely out, But I'd say it's a longshot." – Coach Mike Shanahan after practice Wednesday talking about the availability of safety LaRon Landry this weekend, Landry has missed the last two games because of an Achilles' tendon injury

“I just feel like different situations cause that to happen, Things are a little bit unstable in Washington, and it didn’t work out quite that well there. In Carolina, they have other issues to worry about other than receivers... I definitely was surprised, When things happen like that, other opportunities present themselves. Right now, for me to be here, is a blessing. Unfortunately, I wasn’t up to speed with (the Redskins) but they had other things going on.” – – former Redskins and current New York Giants WR Devin Thomas discussing being on his third team this season
