Coach Joe Gibbs has supported Patrick Ramsey throughout the season, often referring to him as the future of the Redskins. Apparently the future has arrived ahead of schedule. On Monday, Coach Gibbs announced that Ramsey would get the nod against the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.

The third year quarterback replaced the struggling Mark Brunell with 7:28 left in the second quarter after Brunell threw for a paltry 1 of 8 for 6 yards. Ramsey will get his first start of the season and 17th of his career against the top-rated team in the NFC. The Eagles will come in fresh off of a 49-21 win on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys. While the Eagles have not been stellar against the run, the pass defense has been good.

Darnerien McCants saw his first action of the season last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. McCants turned in an impressive performance, with 2 catches for 46 yards. Darnerien has been the odd man out this season, with the team only choosing to carry 4 wide receivers for most games.

Chad Morton’s injury created more work for James Thrash and opened a spot for McCants to get the shot he’s been after this season. According to Coach Gibbs, he liked what he saw and plans to try to get Darnerien more involved in the offense.

On the injury front, Cornelius Griffin scared everyone when he left the Bengals game due to a hip flexor injury. After further testing, Griffin’s injury appears to be minor and should not cause him to miss much time, if any. That’s good news for the team, as Griffin has been the best player for this defense, not only stuffing the run but rushing the passer as well. If Griffin does miss anytime, Joe Salave’a and Brandon Noble will likely get the nod on Sunday.

The news for Redskins’ reserve linebacker Khary Campbell wasn’t as promising. Campbell tore his ACL and is likely done for the season. Khary has played well when called upon in the defense, and has been an important part of the special teams coverage units, and his injury further depletes what was arguably the deepest unit of the team coming into the season.

LaVar Arrington is listed as week-to-week in his seemingly endless rehabilitation from his knee injury. Most likely, he will miss this Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

The status of Mike Barrow, Philip Daniels and John Hall have not been updated as of yet. Check theHogs.net Game Day section on Saturday for the official injury report.
