Washington Redskin cornerback Fred Smoot accepted a deal to join the Minnesota Vikings. Smoot gave the Redskins a chance to match the offer, but they weren't willing to move from their original offer.

The contract, believed to be worth $34 million including a $10.8 million signing bonus, is said to pay the cornerback $6 million per season over the first three years of the deal.

Smoot played in Washington for four seasons, recording 16 interceptions while becoming a fan favorite. One of many pro bowl alternates from last year’s dominating defense, Smoot was regarded for his heart and desire, as well as his colorful comments to the media and fans. Smoot will team up with Antoine Winfield, giving the Vikings one of the better cornerback tandems in the NFL.

The Redskins also announced that the team re-signed two of it’s own in H-back / special teamer Mike Sellers and defensive tackle Cedric Killings.

Mike Sellers was a force on special teams last season, finishing second on the team in special team tackles (29). He appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins, starting two as the backup H-back to Chris Cooley. He was used mostly in blocking situations, due to his 6’3” – 250-pound frame, but did have a 14-yard reception as well.

Killings saw limited action last season, however showed very well for the NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire. Killings was signed as an unrestricted free agent last season after spending time with the 49ers, Panthers and Vikings.
