The Washington Redskins officially announced the addition of Kevin Dyson on Monday. Dyson signed shortly after working out for team officials Monday morning.

Dyson, originally drafted by Tennessee in 1998, spent five seasons with the Titans before signing with Carolina as a free agent in 2003. The 6-2, 212-pound wide receiver spent training camp with San Diego last season, but the Chargers released the Utah grad before the start of the regular season.

For his career, Dyson has started 54 of the 59 games he has appeared in, including two Super Bowl losses and the 1999 Wild Card match up against the Buffalo Bills in which he scored the winning touchdown as part of the “Music City Miracle”.

Taylor Excused

The Redskins also excused safety Sean Taylor from the remaining OTAs and the upcoming mini camp, releasing the following statement:

Everyone here is aware of the situation involving Sean Taylor this past week in Miami.

The League has a Personal Conduct Policy that governs this type of situation and we will be discussing the matter with League officials. All questions regarding the League's Personal Conduct Policy should be directed to the League Office.

With that in mind, we have informed Sean's agent that, as of today, Sean is excused from participating in the remainder of the club's voluntary off-season workout program and the upcoming mandatory mini-camp beginning on June 17.

As an organization, the Redskins believe that it is in Sean's best interest to focus on his personal and legal issues at this time."

Portis and Iffy Settle

The pending law suit between Arizona Cardinals safety Ifeanyi Ohalete and Redskins running back Clinton Portis was settled Monday evening when Portis reportedly agreed to pay $18,000 of the $20,000 allegedly owed, narrowly averting their date in court on Tuesday.

The two players were teammates with the Redskins, and Portis agreed to pay Ohalete $40,000 in three payments of $20,000, $10,000 and $10,000. Shortly after receiving the first payment, the Redskins waived Ohalete and Portis reportedly failed to pay the second and third payment on the belief that Ohalete’s departure voided the contract.
