There are no less than eight Washington Redskins starters listed on this week’s injury report, and once again two of the team’s four cornerbacks are amongst the walking wounded.

The team received good news regarding Walt Harris’ injured calf, as the nine-year veteran rejoined the team in practice this week. Unfortunately, replacing Harris on the injured list are rookie cornerback Carlos Rogers (ankle), listed as probable, and starter Shawn Springs (shin), listed as questionable. If neither defensive back is able to play this weekend in Kansas City, Ade Jimoh will get yet another start for the 3-1 Redskins.

Also listed as probable for the defense are defensive tackles Cornelius Griffin (wrist) and Joe Salave’a (thigh), and defensive end Renaldo Wynn.

On the offense the top two running backs both found their way onto the injury report, with Ladell Betts listed as questionable for a groin injury and Clinton Portis listed as probable due to a calf injury. Both players suffered their respective injuries during the loss to the Denver Broncos, and both players finished the game. Also listed as probable for the Redskins offense is guard Randy Thomas (shoulder).

John Hall makes the list for the fourth consecutive week with his injured right quadricep muscle, giving rookie Nick Novak another likely chance to kick.

The saga continues as LaVar Arrington and the Redskins coaching staff continue to answer questions regarding the 3-time Pro Bowler’s lack of playing time, the last two comments coming from Arrington and Coach Joe Gibbs. Arrington lamented that he was unsure what more he could do to get more playing time, and Coach Gibbs answered by saying he had spoken to Arrington on many occasions, telling him what he needed to do to get back out on the field.

Trent Green faces the team that gave him his break in the NFL for only the third time. In the previous two meetings in 2000 (with the St. Louis Rams) and 2001 (with the Kansas City Chiefs), Green has torched the Redskins secondary, completing 44 of 64 pass attempts for 673 yards, 5 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

Coach Joe Gibbs uncharacteristically challenged the officiating from week five’s loss in Denver, calling it one of the worst officiating performances he can remember. At issue were several calls including the safety that was ruled an incomplete pass, the phantom offensive pass interference call, the lack of a defensive pass interference call on Chris Cooley in the second half, and another non-existent call for holding on Casey Rabach, which negated a long run by Clinton Portis.

Right tackle Jon Jansen reportedly played without a cast on his left thumb in Denver, and expects to play in Kansas City without either thumb in a cast.

Mike Sellers has become an unlikely hero, as he finds himself tied with Santana Moss for the team lead in touchdown receptions at 2.
