Tennessee Titans

2005 Results: 4-12, 3rd in NFC South
2006 Projected Cap Status: $6.2 million under the cap

2005 Season Recap:

The Titans had an up-and-down season in 2005. While their 4-12 record makes finding the ups a bit more difficult. Quarterback Steve McNair topped the 25,000 passing yard mark, making him just the fifth quarterback to reach both that plateau and the 3,000 yard rushing mark. The Titans young tight ends combined for almost 150 receptions, and their defense finished in the top 5, despite much turnover on that side of the ball in previous years. Unfortunately, these types of victories lose their value when the team’s record ends the way it did.

Team Needs:

1. Offensive Tackle: With the loss of Brad Hopkins to free agency, the Titans are going to need a replacement to protect their quarterback, whether it is Jay Culter, Steve McNair or Billy Volek (who knows at this point).

2. Wide Receiver: Drew Bennett was a decent number 2 option, but he’s not the answer as the team’s top playmaker. The team also signed another number 2 in David Givens, but the team still lacks the playmaker they lost when Derrick Mason signed with the Ravens.

3. Safety: Even with the addition of former Steeler Chris Hope, the Titans are in the midst of a complete rebuild at this position. The lack of production from this unit last season was a sore spot for the team, and they will likely look to bolster the position through the draft, possibly in the fourth or fifth round.

2006 Draft Picks:
1st Round –3rd Overall

Free agency status:
UFA: CB Tony Beckham; LB Rocky Boiman; LB Brad Kassell; S Tank Williams; LS Jon Dorenbos; DE Kyle Vanden Bosch; C Justin Hartwig; OT Brad Hopkins
RFA: S Donnie Nickey
ERFA: QB Matt Mauck; RB Jarrett Payton; LB Cody Spencer.
