Green Bay Packers

2005 Results: 4-12, 4th in NFC North
2006 Projected Cap Status: $67,400,000

2005 Season Recap:
The Packers went 4-12, their worst season since 1993. Free agency killed them before the season started when both pro bowl guards left, and finding replacements wasn’t high on Ted Thompson’s list. Injuries also played a part in the 4-12 record. Pro Bowler Javon Walker (in week 1) and backs Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport all went down. Brett Favre led the league in interceptions and no one knows if he’ll be back this year.

Team Needs:

1. Linebacker: The Packers are looking for help at both outside linebacker spots to go along with MLB Nick Barnett. OLB Na'il Diggs was released on March 2; WLB Robert Thomas missed the second half of last season because of a quadriceps injury. The fact that the Packers failed to pursue any of the available free agent linebackers could mean Ohio State outside linebacker A.J. Hawk will be selected with the 5th pick in the draft

2. Defensive end: Aaron Kampman has re-signed but the Packers could use a run-stopper coming off the other edge. NC State's Mario Williams would be a nice fit here. He is said to be better and more explosive than Julius Peppers by some.

3. Wide receiver: Javon Walker's annual demand to be traded or be paid leads to uncertainty at this position. Besides Walker, Donald Driver is the only proven wide out on the roster. The re-signing of Rod Gardner helps, but a playmaker will be needed here

2006 Draft Picks:
1st Round - 5th Overall

Free agency status:

UFA: RB Tony Fisher; C Mike Flanagan; S Todd Franz; FB William Henderson; NT Grady Jackson; LB Paris Lenon; QB Craig Nall; G/C Grey Ruegamer. WR/KR Antonio Chatman; WR Andrae Thurman.
ERFA: DT Colin Cole
