Betts ties record, Hits career highs

RB Ladell Betts tied a Washington Redskins franchise mark held by Rob Goode (1951) and Clinton Portis (2005) by rushing for more than 100 yards for the fifth consecutive game. Betts finished the game with 129 rushing yards giving him 1062 yards for the season. This is his first career 1000 yard season after 5 years in the league. Betts’s 29 carries brought his 2006 total to 225, another career high. The only negative spot on Betts performance Sunday was a fumble that occurred with a little over 2 minutes left to play, Betts appeared headed for what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown, but St Louis DB Oshiomogho Atogwe ran him down and punched the ball loose, forcing a critical turnover.

Rocky McIntosh made his first NFL start

Rocky McIntosh started at weak-side linebacker, with Warrick Holdman (who started the first 14 games at weak-side linebacker) switching to the strong-side replacing Marcus. The Redskins traded up in last year's draft to select McIntosh, the 6-2, 231-pound linebacker out of Miami, with the 35th overall pick in the second round but McIntosh had played mostly on special teams this season (second on the team with 25 special teams tackles). Rocky’s biggest play came on a play he almost watched from the sidelines. The Rams faced a 3rd-and-1 and broke the huddle with McIntosh watching from the sidelines, once he realized he should have been out there he raced on the field just before the ball was snapped and stuffed Steven Jackson at the line of scrimmage for no gain. McIntosh finished the game with eight tackles, tied for second-most on the team.

Redskins end red zone scoring drought

The Redskins overtime loss will be remembered negatively by most, because the Rams had over 570 yards total offense and the Skins allowed 37 points. Missed in all of this is the fact the offense scored 4 touchdowns in four trips into the red zone, after not scoring a touchdown in their previous nine trips to the red zone. Jason Campbell continued his streak of a TD pass in every game by throwing one to Chris Cooley and the team rushed for the other three. Betts scored twice and TJ Duckett scored his first rushing TD as a Redskin

Injury Update

CB Shawn Springs fractured his shoulder in the Rams game, on the game’s first drive and did not return. He was be placed on Injured Reserve ending his season and potentially his career as a Redskin, his cap number is high in 2007 and he is likely to be asked to restructure or potentially be released.

DE Phillip Daniels was carted off the field after his throat closed up on him. Daniels said he has never had anything like that happen to him before and the problem was corrected when he started taking some oxygen. He wanted to return to the game but trainers would not allow him. FB Mike Sellers suffered a shoulder injury and S Vernon Fox suffered a thumb injury.

The Redskins' injury status will be updated at the end of the week.
