CB Mike Rumph Released

Shortly after the Washington Redskins placed CB Shawn Springs (fractured shoulder blade) on injured reserve, the team announced it had waived CB Mike Rumph. Rumph was acquired during the pre-season in a trade with San Francisco for WR Taylor Jacobs. Like Jacobs, Rumph was inactive for most of the 2005 season.

Cornerbacks added to Active Roster

Replacing cornerback Shawn Springs and Mike Rumph on the 53-man roster will be CB John Eubanks from the practice squad and DB Leigh Torrence, who was a free agent. Eubanks, 5-10 and 173 pounds, signed as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Mississippi this past off-season and has spent the season on the Redskins practice squad. Torrence, 6-0 and 183 pounds, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford after the 2004 draft. He saw playing time in ten games with the Atlanta Falcons last season and was cut by the Packers before this season started. Eubanks will wear No. 34, and Torrence will wear No. 29.

"Mr. Irrelevant" returns to the Practice Squad

The Redskins signed wide receiver Ryan Hoag to the practice squad for the second time this season. Hoag, 6-2 and 200 pounds, was with the Redskins' practice squad for one week in late November and has been on the rosters of the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings. In April 2003, Hoag was the last player selected in the NFL Draft, out of Gustavus Adolphus by the Oakland Raiders, earning him the draft day title of "Mr. Irrelevant."

The Redskins also signed OT Calvin Armstrong to the practice squad. Armstrong, 6-7 and 325-pounds was drafted in the sixth round (#211) of the 2005 Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles out of Washington State University. He grew up in Centralia, WA and attended Centralia High School where he stood out in football and basketball.
