Washington Redskins veteran offensive tackle Todd Wade said Friday that he will explore the free agent market in search of a starting role. His return appears very unlikely, as building depth on the offensive line remains a priority for the Redskins.

Wade, a seven year veteran out of Mississippi, acknowledges starting offensive tackle Jon Jansen’s role on the team.

"I'm going into free agency because I won't be given a chance to start in Washington," Wade stated, adding, "I've started close to 100 games throughout my career and deserve a shot at being a starter."

The Redskins signed the former Miami Dolphin and Houston Texan less than a week prior to the 2006 season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Wade appeared in three games and made his only start of the season against the New Orleans Saints. In place on an injured Jansen, Wade played at a very high level in pass protection and excelled in run blocking. The performance of the offensive line against the NFC South Champions helped lead running back Ladell Betts to his fourth consecutive 100-yard performance.

- The Redskins, according to two separate articles, have signed offensive lineman William Whitticker and defensive back Chip Cox. The Redskins also signed defensive end Chris Wilson, who has spent the last two seasons playing in the Canadian Football League with the British Columbia Lions.

The team has yet to make an official announcement of those signings. The Redskins generally announces the bulk of the pre-free agency offseason signings in January at once.

- Linebacker Anthony Trucks, signed to the Redskins practice squad in December, said he signed a two-year deal and will be returning to the team and competing in training camp.
