The Washington Capitals recalled Eric Fehr from the defending AHL champion Hershey Bears Saturday, January 27, and Fehr made the most of his opportunity, netting his first career NHL goal. The goal came in the Caps 7-3 win over the same Carolina Hurricanes that beat the Caps Friday night, 6-2

Fehr got his first mark thanks to a stellar offensive play by Alexander Semin in the second period against the division rival Carolina Hurricanes. Semin stole the puck at the 'Canes blue line, and fought through two defenders. Semin and Fehr both went for the puck, with Fehr gaining control and beating Cam Ward for the Caps fourth goal of the night.

The Caps had to be happy to see the 21 year old get his first tally. The team hopes that Fehr and the Swedish Sensation Nicklas Backstrom will someday make up a formidable foursome with the two Alexanders to give the Caps an offensive line-up as potent as any in the NHL.

The former first round pick (18th overall, 2003) is tied for ninth in the AHL, posting 22 goals in 40 games. That is good for second on the Bears. He is also third in points with 41 and second in both power play goals (seven) and plus/minus rating at +20.

Also joining Fehr in the scoring barrage by the Capitals on saturday night were Semin with two, Ovechkin, Kris Beech, Chris Clark and Brooks Laich. Semin's two tallies give him 29 goals on the season, and continues his torrid march through January. Semin leads the league in goals in the first month of the new year with 12, including five multi-goal games and points in all but two.

Next up for the Caps, a visit to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, Jan 30.
