Coach Gibbs Denies Health RumorsCoach Joe Gibbs predicted early in his return to the Redskins that if the team struggled, the rumors would start coming out of the woodwork about his health. Well, the team has struggled and earlier this week, the rumors started.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that friends of Coach Gibbs had insinuated that they were worried about his health. He further claimed that the coach might use it as a reason to retire following this season.

Coach Gibbs has rejected the report, stating that his health is fine and he has no intention of leaving the Washington Redskins.

Personnel associated with the team refuted claims made in the media that Clinton Portis was benched for the Steelers game last weekend. Portis carried the ball only 6 times in that game, while Ladell Betts saw the most action he has seen all season.

It appears that Lemar Marshall will get yet another start. Linebacker LaVar Arrington will miss this weekend’s game against the New York Giants. Arrington is recovering from a bone bruise associated with the knee injury he suffered in the loss to the Giants in week 2.

Right guard Randy Thomas is listed as doubtful on the team’s injury report and will likely miss his second straight game due to a hamstring injury.

Rookie right tackle Mark Wilson suffered a mild knee injury in the Pittsburgh game, and missed Wednesday’s team practice in an effort to rest it. If Wilson is available, he will get the start at right tackle once again and Ray Brown will stay in the right guard spot. If Wilson is unable to play, Ray Brown will slide back over to right tackle and Lennie Friedman will start at right guard.

Phillip Daniels is listed as questionable for the Giants this weekend. Daniels returned to practice this week, and was said to be optimistic about his availability for the game.
