Redskins Players of the Game: Raiders
Each week, THN will choose their 3 players of the game at each position. Here are week 11's selections:
Offense: Chris Cooley
Cooley was one of the few positives on Sunday. The Redskins offense failed to move the ball down the field with any efficiency and only reached the red zone once.
Cooley led all receivers with 74 yards and was clutch when the team needed a first down. Of his 5 catches, his last 4 went for first downs. Cooley came through with his longest reception of the day (24 yards) on the Redskins final offensive drive of the game and put the Redskins in Raiders territory. That was his only catch of the second half.
The sophomore H-Back would have been more of a factor had he been used more in passing situations in the second half.
Defense: Lemar Marshall
Marshall gave the team plenty of momentum to build on when he picked off Kerry Collins on the Raiders opening drive and ran the ball 17 yards for his first career touchdown. Marshall continued his aggressive approach, making the tackle on the Raiders very next offensive play.
The seventh-year linebacker was very active and involved on a lot of plays. Although he struggled covering Jerry Porter on the Raiders only touchdown, Marshall did lead all Redskins with 9 tackles and 1 forced fumble.
Special Teams: Derrick Frost
Frost tied a career high with 3 punts downed inside the 20. Of those 3 punts, the Raiders average starting field position was about the 9 yard line.
Most of Frostís solid punting came in the first half. As the offense became more anemic, Frost was forced to punt from deep in Redskins territory, giving the Raiders better starting field position. Despite that, only one punt resulted in a Raiders return in Redskin territory.
