The Dog Days Of SummerIt is that time of year for football fans across the globe. That void in the calendar between the draft and training camp where NFL news trickles through like molasses through a sieve. The flurry of free agency signings seems like the distant pass; the draft is history. Let us examine some things we have to look forward to in the coming weeks.

The Washington Redskins held their rookie camp, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to look at more than 90 rookies and first year players, including the first look at the draftees selected in April. Upon completion of this camp, seven undrafted rookies were signed to the off-season roster, including WR Mike Espy, OT Chris Pino and CB John Eubanks.

Today, the team begins its Organized Team Activities (OTAs). The OTAs will run Tuesday through Thursday for the next five weeks, at the completion of which, the team will hold the first mini-camp of 2006. The team is being sure to let everyone know that, while these OTAs will include on-field drills, there will be no contact and no pads. The Redskins are being sure to make this distinction because of the fiasco last year involving offensive line drills being caught on tape by Redskins.com TV and broadcast to the public – and Players, Inc. The video led to lost days of OTAs, something the team would obviously want to avoid repeating.

In early June, the first inaugural Redskins Beach Blitz will be held in Virginia Beach, VA. This should be a good way for fans to connect with the team during the off-season. As of now, 42 Redskin players are slated to be on-hand for the festivities, which include a golf tournament and a black-tie gala, as well as the NFL Experience, which will allow fans to act out their NFL fantasies.

Closer to home, THN will be releasing version 3 soon and it should be fantastic. The staff is working hard to put out content in new and exciting ways, so be sure to stick close. You will not want to miss it.

On top of the release of version 3, there will also be new player profiles, a camp guide and a few surprises to help ease the pain of the off-season and to get ready for the upcoming year. As always, our goal is to help fans bleed burgundy and gold just a little bit harder.
