Hog Wire: News and NotesLadell Betts is closing in on first 1000 yard season

Ladell Betts needs just 67 yards over the next 2 games to put him at 1000 yards. Betts has averaged more than twice that over the last four games (137 yards), if he gains 100 yards or more on Sunday against the Rams, he’ll join Portis among a trio of Redskins running backs to rush for 100+ yards five consecutive games. Ladell had his best game to date as a pro against his division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, two weeks ago when he rushed for more than 170 yards. If Betts can hit 1000 yrds, it would be the first time in his career that he has hit this milestone.

- Marcus Washington questionable

Seldom used linebacker Jeff Posey may get some extended playing time this weekend because LB Marcus Washington has been slowed by swelling on his knee and did not practice on Wednesday. Posey is listed as the backup weak-side linebacker but Gregg Williams also has the option to move Warrick Holdman to the strong-side and insert rookie Rocky McIntosh at weak-side which is the position he was drafted to play.

- Practice Squad Vacancy Filled

The Redskins have signed Tackle Sam Wilder to the practice squad. Wilder fills the spot left vacant by offensive lineman Nick Steitz, who was signed to San Francisco's active roster on Tuesday. Wilder, 6-5 and 297 pounds, started the season on the Carolina Panthers practice squad, but entered the NFL as a undrafted free agent in 2005. Wilder was a three-year starter at Colorado, and finished his career with 36 consecutive starts. He went to First Baptist Academy High School in Texas.

- Pro Bowl Team Announced

The NFL announced the Pro Bowl selections for both the AFC and NFC on Tuesday; only one Redskin was selected to attend the festivities in Honolulu, Hawaii next February. The selection process consists of votes from coaches, players and fans. The consensus ballots count one-third towards determining the 43-man rosters for each Conference. Chris Samuels was the only Redskins player named to the squad (as a backup left Tackle), but Sean Taylor is a first alternate and Chris Cooley, Antwaan Randle El and Marcus Washington are all third alternates.
