Top Five Offensive Guards
The 2007 NFL Draft is less than a week away, so THN is taking a look at each position's top five prospects. Up next are the offensive guards:#1 Name: Ben Grubbs Class: Senior School: Auburn Height: 6030 Weight: 311 pounds Possesses a unique blend of power and athleticism. Played 32 games at guard for Auburn after being converted from a defensive lineman to a tight end, and then to a guard. He's not only the top guard in the draft, but one of the elite linemen. He won't have to wait long to hear his name called on Saturday, he should go in the top half of the first round. #2 Name: Arron Sears Class: Senior School: Tennessee Height: 6030 Weight: 319 pounds It's tough to rank Sears because though he played twenty-six games at left tackle and six at right tackle for Tennessee, he will probably move inside in the NFL because of his size. Great against both the pass and the run, he'll excel somewhere. He should be drafted late in the first round or early in the second. #3 Name: Justin Blalock Class: Senior School: Texas Height: 6030 Weight: 320 pounds Blalock will probably move inside at the NFL level because of his foot speed. Somebody will make good use of a guy that went 27 straight games without allowing a sack. Being prospected as a guard will likely drop Blalock out of the first round and into the second. #4 Name: Joshua Beekman Class: Senior School: Boston College Height: 6020 Weight: 313 pounds Smallish guard that may end up playing center in the NFL because of his size and limited agility. Again, tough to find fault in a guy that didn't allow a sack in 36 games. He's a great run blocker with tremendous strength, but he struggles once he starts moving. He also had a tough combine, and Senior Bowl. He should still hear his name called on the first day. #5 Name: Andy Alleman Class: Senior School: Akron Height: 6040 Weight: 305 pounds Alleman may present teams with a bit of a project, but he has tremendous up-side. The workout warrior lit up the NFL Combine and firmly established himself as a legitimate top offensive line prospect by showing both strength and agility. He's a third or fourth round player that someone with a need at guard, may like enough to take before that. Check out more at THN's exclusive 2007 NFL Draft section.
