Linebacker LaVar Arrington agreed today to a contract extension with the Washington Redskins, sources close to the situation said.
Arrington said as he left Redskins Park that he had signed the deal, which will make him one of the highest-paid defensive players in NFL history. A source said Arrington signed an eight-year contract worth about $60 million, including combined bonus money of about $20 million. The source said that Arrington will receive about $15.5 million of the bonus immediately, and the remaining $4.5 million in two and a half years.
Arrington, 25, was named to his third consecutive NFC Pro Bowl team last week. His previous contract was to run through the 2006 season. But the Redskins wanted to sign him to a new deal that would keep him with the team for most or all of the remainder of his career and lessen his impact against the club’s salary cap in the next few seasons.
Under his old contract, Arrington would have counted more than $10 million against the salary cap in each of the next three seasons.

hmmmm....I'm not sure I'm all that excited about this. Why do we continue to set standards in this league for the highest paid players? and to boot, not see any results? I like LA's attitude and usually his play, but to be one of the highest paid d players in the history of the league?....to me that's a stretch. Hell, he shouldn't have even made the ProBowl this year. His play didn't warrent it and he made plenty of stupid mental mistakes and missed many assignments.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.
#21 gone, but never forgotten.

I don't think Lavar's mistakes this year are entirely his fault. How can you say he missed assignments? He didn't have any assignments!! That's the freakin' problem!! George Edwards wants his LB's to use their 'instincts'. They've all been chasing the same players, which in turn leaves other players wide open. Every team but the Giants figured that out and exploited that weakness. All of our LB's will play better with assignments and without George Edwards. We've seen what these guys are capable of. We should have the best LB corps in the league!!
oops....sorry!

I'm pumped that Danny locked up LaVar.
The defense stunk this year and LaVar underachieved, but he's one of the few Redskins with the ability to be great. And thanks to the salary cap help, Danny can go out and overpay some washed up veteran...I'm looking at you Sapp.

Yes, there is another Redskins fan in Roanoke!
I'm happy that we got Lavar a new deal, but I'm gonna wait until I see all of te details of the contract before I get too pumped.
For one thing... if we're saving cap in the first 2 years, then there has got to be some HUGE numbers in 2006 and beyond.
PS - Thought your tag line was funny
We're happy to have some eyes and ears right in Roanoke.... keeps us die hards that live A LONG way from Redskin country up-to-date on the local 'buzz'.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

ok a few points
1. snyder dishes out another blockbuster deal, to a player who has had a not so great season.(but i still love LA and am glad he's stayin put a little while longer)
2. chump has got to be pissed off at this point(or just call it plain ole jealous
)
3. stephen davis also signed a monster deal that was to make him a skin for life...... this new deal may just delay the inevitable.
4. i really think snyder hasn't learned a GD thing. this "cap" will catch up to you and bite you in the a$$......
5.
gotta mention chump again here
i hope everyone on the team worth keeping gets a new deal/extension in the next month..... except chump........he gets a fat franchise tag, which means he probably won't even come close to getting the numbers that he would have gotten, if he had excepted our offer earlier in the season.....what a dumb***

Listen to yourself. When they had someone in here to give them ASSIGNMENTS (see M. Lewis) they bitched and moaned. Trotter and LA always want to use their instincts. This is why philly let trotter go. Listen, I've been a skins fan for 33 years and this is killing me, but I don't see this ship getting fixed anytime soon.
it is what it is
