Hats off for Reed Doughty
Reed Doughty sent a message that seems to mean he will not be back with the Redskins. Sorry to see him leave.
Doughty was not a high-talent guy. He was tough and smart, and supposed to be the extra safety supporting Sean Taylor and LaRon Landry. Doughty got his starts because Taylor hurt his knee and then was killed.
Doughty has done very well for a guy who suddenly had to replace Sean T...who can't be replaced.

Did the message say why? Does he think he will be cut? Was he cut? Is he retiring?

Class guy who is a model for making the most of your talent. Every year, he was on his last legs in summer camp... and every year he not only made the team... but he contributed... character player. Quality team mate. The kind of team mate who contributes whether on the field... or not.

The man knew how to be a professional. A credit to our team and certainly my fandom. I feel the same way about him that I used to feel about Jumpy Geathers, Kurt Gouveia (sp?) and Joe Jacoby (though the relevant talent level was much, much higher).
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

I read that, and was frankly shocked that he was with us eight years. He is the guy we want to upgrade every year, yet he was here year after year. You gotta give him credit, for a guy who was a marginal NFL player, succeeded with heart and stuck around quite a while.
His statement was also pure class.
He didn't say why he knows he's done, I'm assuming the team told him in case he wanted to try to make another team so he had a chance now.

While bittersweet it is.. I'm glad this day has finally arrived. A day that Mike and co. Couldn't make happen. It's called progress!
...and I appreciate all that he gave us, which with no doubt was 110% of what he had to give. Good luck to the man!

I always thought Doughty was great around the line of schrimmage and tackled well. Was smart and a hard worker.
I always felt our defensive coordinator Haz failed to put our players in the best possible situation to suceed. But thats another discussion.
I wish Reed the best. He always gave his all. I couldnt ask for anymore. Heck I wouldnt mind seeing him come back. Just hope our DC can use our players right to see the full potential of each player being realized.

Hats off to him is right. Hell of a player — not in the RGIII freakish talent sense, but still one of my favorite Redskins for his eight years here. (Had it already been eight?!)
