And what he said validates what I beefed about this year with the misuse of linebackers and the misuse of this scheme when the pass rush wasn't getting to the QB... man it made me so mad to see this scheme being used over and over when it was obviously failing.

Cover 2 is just like every other scheme. You need the right personnel for sure, but the coaching is the most important aspect. The right player in the wrong place is a recipe for 5-11.

Thats a great article that describes all the aspects of the cover 2. Heres my 2 cents about this coverage.

I have played in the defensive back field all through pee-wee, midgets, and when i was in high school. Most of the time i was a free safety. Like someone mentioned, the cover 2 is SOOO dependent on the speed and physicalities of your secondary.

Especially, the two corners press the Sh*t out of the receivers, and the two linebackers, drop back into a short zone coverage as describe in the article. This puts the safeties cover half the field a piece, major burden and there are serious holes in the zone. I hated run anything that resembled the Cover 2. Basicaly you need sick safeties to run this. The bucs use to run alot of Cover 2 because of their secondary.

I like to say that running the cover 2 is bascialy playing the run, just cause of the technicalities of the scheme. But damn....with out the right personal, its a recipe for disaster, hench I wouldnt run it basicaly... at all lol. Thats just my 2 cents Smile
