Fans can vote online at NHL.com beginning Nov. 15 through Jan. 2

ARLINGTON, Va. – Goaltender Olie Kolzig and left wing Alex Ovechkin will represent the Washington Capitals on the NHL’s All-Star ballot, with voting running from Nov. 13 to Jan. 2. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star starters for the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, which will be hosted in Atlanta on Jan. 27.

For the second consecutive year, the XM/NHL All-Star fan balloting process, presented by 2K Sports, will be entirely digital, with voting taking place at NHL.com. Capitals fans will be able to access the ballot via WashingtonCaps.com. In addition, fans in the U.S. may also cast their votes through Verizon Wireless cell phones.

Kolzig, 37, has appeared in two NHL All-Star Games (1998 and 2000). The longest-tenured Washington Capital, now in his 17th professional season, he has posted a 4-6-0 record, .904 save percentage and 2.71 goals-against average in 10 starts this season. Kolzig is one of 10 goaltenders this year on the Eastern Conference All-Star ballot.

Ovechkin, 22, is making his second appearance on the NHL All-Star ballot. A native of Moscow, Russia, he finished tied for third in the NHL in goals last season (46) and ranked 13th in the league in scoring (46-46-92). He was voted a starter last season and became the first Capital to start an NHL All-Star Game since 1986. Ovechkin leads the Capitals with nine goals and seven assists (16 points) through 14 games and is tied for seventh in the NHL in goals and tied for third in the league in shots (73).

The 100 players appearing on the ballot were selected by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department. The 2007-08 season marks the 20th year in which fans will vote to determine the starting lineups for the NHL All-Star Game. Fans can vote for six Eastern Conference All-Stars and six Western Conference All-Stars: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender on each team. A space is provided for write-in votes for candidates not listed on the ballot.
