"Marginal" Smith upset with Panthers
The Panthers' contract talks with Steve Smith didn't get off to a rousing start. Smith told the Charlotte Observer's Pat Yasinskas that the Panthers "spit in my (expletive) face".

Jaguars choose Leftwich over Brunell
The Jaguars officially have a quarterback controversy on their hands. Although Mark Brunell says that he is healthy, the Jacksonville Times-Union's Vito Stellino reports that Byron Leftwich will start for the Jaguars on Sunday.

It's all up to Strahan
It's time for Michael Strahan to step up. New York Post columnist Steve Serby thinks that Strahan needs to "impose his will on a Sunday afternoon".

Sports, Rush didn't mix
Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom is surprised that Rush Limbaugh lasted as long on ESPN as he did. Albom writes that Limbaugh's "black-and-white outlook" doesn't work in sports.

Jackson was ready to quit Countdown
New York Daily News columnist Bob Raissman writes that if Rush Limbaugh had not quit "NFL Countdown", Tom Jackson would have. Apparently Jackson told an ESPN exec that he was going to confront Limbaugh at a production meeting and then quit the show.

Good for Tom Jackson. I hope that is true. Someone needed to stand up for what was said. Made no football sense at all.

Yeah Cause Lavar said in an interview that he could not beleive that Jackson did not say anything.

Washington Redskins coach Steve Spurrier was far from agreeing with the overrated part of Limbaugh's opinion.

"They didn't give him all that money because he's an average quarterback," Spurrier said. "He's one of the best in the league."

Many Redskins players took issue with both the premise and conclusion of Limbaugh's statement. They felt McNabb is indeed worth all the attention he gets, and they wondered what on earth race has to do with it.

"Who's Rush Limbaugh to make a statement like that?" linebacker LaVar Arrington said. "He needs to stay in his area of expertise because clearly he's out it. That's one of the most asinine comments a person can make. It shows his IQ level in football."

Just wish Jackson would have said something when it happened. Would love to have seen alittle on-air confrontation - maybe even a body slam.

Maybe he just was kinda taken back and not really sure what to say although most commentators don't have that problem.

Well - it's history now - just like RL (what about the new drug charges?)
