The Washington Redskins have expressed interest in former Pro Bowl tight end Byron Chamberlain, who was released Monday by the Minnesota Vikings.

I think this would be a good pick-up for the Skins. Chamberlain is a very good receiving TE and should really shine in the good ol' fun & gun.

And boy do we need a TE with good receiving hands...

Who would you say lose - Royal or Flemister?

He has a lot of on and off the field troubles, though and reported back to the Vikings at 30 pounds over weight after returning from a four game suspension. I have cards of him to get signed, so I'll give him a break. d'oh!

My buddy is a huge Vikings fan and his words to me (after he stopped laughing) were he'll play for a few boxes of donuts. Jake is exactly right, he was totally out of shape which is just generally a bad sign (lack of dedication). He's not a 350 lb lineman that should be afforded any type of lax in conditioning.

I think we should park Darnerian at Krispy Cremes until he's gained the 20 lbs he needs to play TE. Smile

LOL

I think he needs to get on the Fred Smoot conditioning course Smile

I hear rumors, Boss, about PJ moving up over McCants. Just the smallest of whispers, but they are there.

I still wanna see Jacobs on the field Smile

I hope not! I'm a huge McCants fan. I agree with Boss in that McCants would make a most exellent TE if he had the size. The guy is a fighter for the ball and will always seem to find a way to come down with it.

I didn't say that I was for replacing him, now that he has shown what he can do when they throw the ball to him. I still would like to see a lineup with all the speed out there - Coles, Jacobs, PJ, Trung...

I don't know about you, but I would hate to have to defense that

Where is Clint Didier - maybe he hasn't gain 30lbs, and who knows - he may still be better than Flemister and Royal. Very Happy Just fantasizing!

Hope to see Jacobs get a ball thrown his way on Sunday too. Just want to see the kid in a real game.

Don't think we need to get anyone (Chamberlain) that could potentially mess with the chemistry the team is building - need Royal and Flemister to start stepping up to the plate.

I'm not sure we need a receiving TE in SS's offense...I know people have said otherwise...but not SS (to my knowledge). I personally would like to see another tackle/blocking type TE/s for some extra pass protection...I'm tired of the sacks and seeing P-Ram get beat up. Patrick's tough, but we can't continue to have him banged around like we have in his short career.....his/our luck will run out.

TE Byron Chamberlain is in the early stages of negotiating a deal with the Washington Redskins, a source told the Washington Post on Saturday.

Released by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, the fomer Pro Bowler worked out at Redskins Park on Friday, after which the team opened preliminary negotiations, the Post reported.

Chamberlain, 31, who was suspended for the first four games of the season after testing positive for ephedra, was cut after the NFL reinstated him. The Vikings released Chamberlain in part because he returned overweight, according to the paper.

Redskins coach Steve Spurrier did not see Chamberlain's workout, the paper said.

"We have confidence in those players," Spurrier told the paper when asked about the play of the team's current tight ends. "We just haven't thrown a lot at them but they are doing fine."

TE Zeron Flemister, who missed two games with a strained Achilles' tendon, is healthy enough to play, the paper said. But Robert Royal is expected to start for the second straight time, the Post said.

According to the paper, team owner Daniel Snyder has made signing another tight end a priority. The Redskins tried to sign Ernie Conwell, now with the New Orleans Saints, and Wesley Walls, who joined the Green Bay Packers, in the offseason.

Amen TH...

Although IMO, we have to carry 3 TE's on the active roster so that we don't have to drop someone so we can bring Ware up from the PS every time z-man or RR get hurt. Both seem to be 'banged up' all the time. Just end the PS carousel with a guy that's good enough to make the active roster.

Orantes Grant is the 7th LB on the roster and though he was impressive at camp and kept for his ST play, I haven't heard his name on ST once (maybe I'm just dense and have missed it). Drop him for a TE who can play ST and contribute at TE... whether it's blocking or receiving.

I don't know about the dense part - I will leave that up to Tazlah to answer ::grin::

You haven't missed it cause it is usually Terrell who makes the ST plays - I will give him that much credit anyway Smile

I know we need a consistent TE but how does this make CB feel, seeing Cap diminish?

Who cares?

Champ's under contract this year... we have cap space THIS year... we wanted to renegotiate with Champ to put on some extra cap dollars THIS year.

What we do next year is entirely different and it seems quite obvious to me that Champ ain't gonna renegotiate DURING this season... therefore... any negotiations will likely only affect NEXT year's cap number now.

So why not spend the cap? It just gets wasted if we don't.

As long as there isn't a huge signing bonus attached to ANY contract we give... you can always cut the guy to get the cap space back.

... and skinsfaninroanoke... go through the boards and you'll find that I've been singing the 'put Terrell back on ST where he belongs' song... for a loooong time.
