Today’s Storyline
Shorthanded no problem – The Capitals in the preseason are 10-for-10 on the penalty kill and have been shorthanded for a total of 19:24. For the past two games the Caps opponents have had the first four power plays in the game. The preseason performance has picked up where they left off from last season, when the Caps gave up only three power play goals in 26 attempts (88.5%) in April. The Capitals ranked 17th in the league for the full year in 2008-09, so there’s room for improvement, and head coach Bruce Boudreau and his staff have worked to address that in the preseason. |

Aucoin looks to stick with Caps – With the Caps’ regular season debut just over a week away, and the final roster soon to be solidified, the play of Keith Aucoin is worthy of note. Aucoin, who scored in the third period of the Caps’ 2-1 loss to Buffalo at Verizon Center last night, played well for the Caps as a late season call-up from Hershey last season (2G, 3A in the Caps’ last 7 games of the season). He led the AHL with 71 assists last season, and finished second in league scoring to teammate Alexandre Giroux by one point. |
