Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Darrell Russell has been reinstated by the NFL, according to his attorney David Cornwell, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Sunday.
Russell, 25, tested positive for the club drug Ecstasy last season and was serving a one-year suspension after NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue turned down his appeal. Under the suspension, Russell was not eligible to play again until Jan. 2, 2004.
Russell also sat out the first four games of the 2002 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The Raiders are expected to release Russell Monday or Tuesday, and Russell is expected to sign with the Washington Redskins by Wednesday, according to Mortensen |

It's too bad about his off-field troubles 'cause he's a stud DT.
We may as well take a flyer on him and hope he can stay out of trouble. He hasn't played for a whilw, so it'll probably take a little time to get back in to playing shape.
He was a really good player once upon a time for the Raiders. If he can get back to half that player, he'll be an improvement. |

According to his bio sheet he is 27 - born 5/27/76. Still a young pup - that may need to be house broken. |
