Fiore Done for the Season After Going on Injured List

The Washington Redskins placed veteran guard Dave Fiore on the injured reserve list today, ending his season.
Fiore underwent arthroscopic surgery on his ailing right knee last month and originally had hoped to return to the lineup for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks at FedEx Field. But his knee didn't respond as hoped, and team officials said he was at least five weeks from being ready to play because doctors planned to have him undergo a series of injections. Redskins officials hope he will be fully healthy and ready to play next season.
"It's incredibly disappointing," Fiore said as he left Redskins Park today. "But I can't worry about the disappointment. I just have to do the best job I can to help out the guys by being as positive as I can, and get my knee back to where it needs to be for next season. We've been trying to do a series of things. But with the way the team is and the injuries they have, they couldn't wait any more. I have no complaints about their patience. They've been as patient as you possibly can be. It's just tough because I want so much to help out. It's been so frustrating."
Fiore, 29, started the Redskins' first three games of the season at left guard after being signed to a four-year, $6.33 million contract (including a $1.5 million signing bonus) on Feb. 28, two days after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers in a salary cap move. But rookie Derrick Dockery took over as the starter after Fiore began being bothered by his knee, on which he also underwent surgery last year. Dockery, the club's third-round draft choice out of Texas, has made some costly mistakes but has played better in recent weeks, and the coaches say they remain confident that he can be a solid player in the future.
The Redskins also signed running back John Simon and offensive lineman Brad Bedell, and added offensive lineman Pita Elisara to the practice squad. They released cornerback Calvin Carlyle.

It seems we are going back and forth here. I am really sad to hear Fiore is out for the season. I thought he'd be such an asset. Oh well. Didn't Badell just get cut not to long ago?? What is going on with the FO??? I feel like we have to constantly watch for personel changes.

Didnt they just release Brad Bedell to make room for Carlyle? Are they playing musical chairs? I don't think its fair to keep toying with these players.

Simon had 9 carries and 18 yards rushing last year. Everyone, take a peek at the transaction if you are curious about Bedell's recent roster status. Click on Team Info on the left side on the page and then click Transaction Log on the right.
