Worth watching this MOVIE (skip the ads)

I happen to think that this technique to manage a team actually works!

It only goes to show how wrong the Dumb and Dumber approach to hire expensive veterans and aging prima donnas was. Explode

The NFL is still waiting for a coach who has the courage — or maybe the "screw it" attitude Laughing — to try managing his team based on advanced stats. Pretty much every academic that's studied fourth downs, for example, thinks that you should rarely, if ever, punt the ball.

Sooooooo ...

you watched it!

What do you think? Is that system in place in the NFL or only the MLB?

I haven't seen Moneyball (yet!) but I know the story.

I do not think that the NFL has an equivalent system in place. Part of it is that football's statistical analysis has been in the stone age compared to baseball (for a number of reasons), but that is changing over time. With advanced stats comes the opportunity to "play the averages" like never before.

The NFL also doesn't have the same depth of potential players that the MLB can draw on from its farm system. There's the draft, and then there are slim pickings.
