If they only keep 6 Santana Moss goes, if they keep 7 and don't draft or sign somebody else he stays. |
Less than a month has pasted and there's time for a update.
With Paul saying the move to TE is a permanent move and Gaffney being shopped or chopped, they may only have six or seven WR on the roster going into camp. And Banks may have to play WR.
Top six, no real need to carry seven
Pierre Garçon
Joshua Morgan
Leonard Hankerson
Santana Moss
Anthony Armstrong
Brandon Banks
Aldrick Robinson will still go back to the PS and Terrence Austin is the odd man out |
Even five plus Banks plus three pass catching TE's (assuming Davis, Cooley, Paul) is too much. I'd still be looking for one more cut personally. It was silly carrying as many as we did last year when we only had two plus Banks who played regularly. |
Then they'll add another guy and hope Robinson can move up from the PS later, Austin and Banks are the same guy but Banks has the return job |

That leave Austin, Banks, Robinson, Armstrong & Moss competing for 1 spot. I think Moss goes due to age & cap. Austin has to show a LOT to stay. That leaves Banks, Armstrong & Robinson competing fot that last spot. I'll guess Robinson since Armstrong is so much older & Banks hasn't shown he can be part of the offense. |
Neither Paul, Austin, Robinson, or Morgan have shown they can make a difference. Your speculating on what they can do is just that--speculation. My hog buddies take unknown quantities and assume excellence, just as they overlook the excellence of what we have. Moss, Gaffey, Garcon, and Banks are proven.
They'll not only make the team, they'll be major contributors. |

Gaffney has told the world he'll be traded or cut how did you miss that.
He can't contribute if the team is telling him NOT to show up for workouts, and advising his agent to find a landing spot Gaff might like. |

It's certainly a risk to cut him, but with Garcon and Morgan on board Moss is far better a fit. We can use him on fewer plays to preserve him and put him in his natural role, which is the slot. Gaffney also has some focus problems and we have cap issues and youngsters. Frankly if Garcon and Morgan end up as disappointments we're in trouble anyway.
I guess what I'm saying bottom line is that I share your oogie feeling cutting Gaffney, but I get why we would. We carried too many receivers last year and seven mediocre receivers didn't equal three good ones. Garcon, Morgan and Moss are a solid receiving core. I'm not sold on AA's hands, but it's put up time for him. We have a couple youngsters. Gaffney's odd man out. And the tweets or his lame (I was hacked) story don't help his cause either. We need to keep getting rid of poor character guys. |

My updated list agrees with yours for right now
During OTAs and Mini camps, I will be expecting to hear that Robinson has made a lot of progress.
With Shanny attempting to sign Eddie Royal, I think that he is still looking for his prototype slot guy, so I expect him to draft a receiver who fits that bill.

I can see them drafting a WR out of this class |

Gaffney is on the trading blocks. So I created my list with the idea of him being cut and or traded for next to nothing.
I didn't mean to list Banks twice tho. But it does coincide with my belief that he'll be gone IF a return specialist/WR is drafted. |

| Quote: | Shanahan said receiver Santana Moss is 15 pounds lighter than last season, a positive development for both Moss and the Redskins. If he regains some of his speed because of the weight loss, then the Redskins are again set at the slot position. Moss would give Griffin a veteran target whom he can trust on his routes. If Moss had not reported in such good shape it would have been easy to see him getting cut in June. Having said that, Shanahan when asked about who his starting wideouts would be said mentioned Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan and Leonard Hankerson first. “You know these three guys … are playmakers and that’s what we’re looking for,” Shanahan said. He then added about Moss, “He’s come in as good a shape as he’s come in the last few years according to him.”
8. And when it comes to the slot, Shanahan said Morgan, Moss and Hankerson all can play in there. Aldrick Robinson also can play inside. “Exceptional quickness,” Shanahan said of Robinson, who participated in the camp this weekend. |
I have always been a fan of Robinson. He will definitely push Tana for that slot position. Glad to hear that Tana has lost weight. I was thinking that he was a June cut coming up.

When Shanny talked about the WR he mentioned Banks more than any other receiver Hankerson was a close second |

| I hope Santana is not cut. First, you need a few savvy veterans on the team to help coach up the young players. He also will be a better player with the new additional talent added. I see a very strong year ahead for Moss unless Shanahan has other plans. |

That doesn't surprise me! Shanny showed at the end of last year what he wants to do with Banks - option passes, end arounds - who knows what he has dreamed up next. As long as Banks holds on to the ball, he holds on to a spot on this team. |
