Allman Brothers and Santana

Postby DarthMonk » Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:44 pm

Took my son to his first concert last night at the Merriweather - The Allman Brothers and Santana.

Great show - 4 1/2 hours of soulful music.

Allmans:

1.Don't Want You No More
(The Spencer Davis Group cover)
2.It's Not My Cross To Bear
3.Statesboro Blues
(Blind Willie McTell cover)
4.I Walk on Guilded Splinters
(Dr. John cover)
5.Hot 'Lanta
6.Worried Down With the Blues
7.Southbound
(with Dennis Chambers, Karl Perazzo, Ron Holloway)
8.No One to Run With
9.Midnight Rider
10.Good Morning Little Schoolgirl
(Sonny Boy Williamson cover) (with Cindy Blackman-Santana, … moreKarl Perazzo-percussion and Marc Quinones-drums)
11.Jessica
Encore:
12.Whipping Post

Santana:

1.Pigs Snout
2.Love Is You Love Is Me
3.Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen
4.Oye Como Va
(Tito Puente cover)
5.Maria Maria
6.Incident at Neshabur
7.Corazón Espinado
8.Jingo
9.Unknown
(Sonny Sharrock cover) (with Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks)
10.Maggot Brain
(Funkadelic cover) (with Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks)
11.Duende / (Da Le) Yaleo
12.Evil Ways / A Love Supreme
13.Smooth / Dame Tu Amor
Encore:
14.Toussaint L'Overture

These are two of the last jam bands left. Average song length was about 10 minutes. Carlos and his boys reached the pinnacle a number of times. Black Magic Woman, Incident at Neshabur, Jingo, and Tousssaint L'Overture were particularly awesome.

I saw Carlos on his 65th birthday in AC a few weeks ago. He's still got the chops - in a big way.

Hey man, where do you live that you were hanging at Merriweather? Or did you just drive in for the show? Grew up approximately 4.5 minutes away from there. SPent a summer working at Merriweather, too, actually caught the Alman Brothers (but unfortunately not Sanatana).
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

Drove from NOVA but grew up in College Park and most of my concerts in the '70s were at Merriweather.

Are you THE Edwin Moses or just a fellow fan? I finally got your name when we talked track in the Hot Chicks thread.

No, not the Edwin Moses. But I am AN Edwin M. I ran track in high school (though not hurdles). The nickname was inevitable.

Cool. I ran the half in high school. I was good back then. Wish I had that kind of speed now.

Looking forward to the track and field.

4x100; 4x200; long and high jump for me. Lots of down time to cultivate my appreciation for the female track athlete form.

Yeah. I'd run the half and then flirt the whole meet until the 2-mile relay ... last event. We had a pretty cute manager too.

That's exactly how I phrase it to other people ... the female track athlete form. Nice.
