Yeah I'm not buying that at all re: cutting Cooley unless he just physically can't play anymore. I don't see Danny getting stingy all of a sudden over one of the most popular players on the team.

Fedex isn't filled up with Logan Paulsen jerseys on Sunday.

If Danny wants to show and prove that he's really changed, keeping Cooley on board will definitely do it. I mean afterall he's always saying that he was a Skins fan before he bought the team.. here's his best chance to show it.

I agree 100% with the bold part as well Riggo!!

AAA, AR, and BB:

I like what I am hearing from AAA lately. I have to see it before, I decide to move him. He was slated to return kick offs before his injury, but as we know, there isn't much opportunity to return kick offs.

There is not question in my mind Robinson his the more polished, coming into camp, than AAA and Banks. We haven't seen Robinson return a punt, but based on potential, I am going to expect him to do very well.
I have to have AR instead of AAA right now.

Banks? He is the incumbent. The guy that Shanny likes for his explosiveness. Shanny has invested so much into finding ways to get him the ball. A reverse has worked and a gadget play has worked. The wild cat has not and so far the bubble screen has not. Banks is 100% healthy and Shanny said that Banks is becoming a pro player so there is no indication that Banks is out despite his poor showing in the Buff game. Of course, you know BB, had some moments where he could have shown he is the playmaker expected of him. Compare AAA reverses to BB when he runs the reverse. The the difference between explosion and speed. BB over Banks right now.

I expect to learn a lot from these three in the next game. If all three of them shine, then it will make it all the more difficult to decide and I am already stretching it with 7 slots.

Cooley:

I get Keim in leaving Cooley off for now: I think that Keim is waiting form more info and the meantime, he is getting attention by making the bold move this early. That's his job. There is basis for him to make this move, so he keeps his credibility. The coaches clearly like Paulsen and Keim has kept 5 backs making it less likely to keep 4 TEs. Though Cooley is healthy now, the probablity is hire for injury for him than for Paulsen.

I decided to drop Paulsen because there is nothing about Paulsen that cannot be developed in a future, TE like Reilford. Also, Niles Paul is getting good reviews about his blocking. Like most others on the boards, I think that Cooley is healthy enough and valuable enough (both on the field and in the lockerroom) to warrant another year. He might be asked to take a pay cut, but he already said that he would.

If "the Danny" has anything to do with Cooley staying on the roster it will mean Cooley SHOULDN'T be on the roster and "the Danny" HASN'T changed.

IMO: If Cooley makes the squad it will because of Cooley, His cap number won't matter if he can't help the team.

I agree with this AND Danny does NOT have any say in who is on the roster or what they are paid

Cooley has indicated he will take a cut - if they want to keep him they'll figure out how to make it all work

Snyder does not have any input on the roster any more and I don't think he interferes with these guys AT ALL

Roster Math with Rich Campbell

This article is mainly about finding a way to keep Alfred Morris by doing a little roster math. Campbell tells us that Shanny has kept 8 O-linemen in his first two years. Campbell believes is Shanny does only keep 8 OL again, then there is a toss up between a 6th receiver, 4th TE or 5th RB.
He doesn't give you much more math than that, but is is a little something to help you with your 53.

It'd have to be a 7th WR, right? No way we only keep five.

It isn't Dan Snyder's decision to make. Its Allen and Shanahan's.

EDIT: I should have read further down the thread before posting, sorry for the repeated idea.

By putting the 6th slot as optional, Campbell defies his own logic for keeping 8 OL. He says that Shanny keep 8 OL in each of the last two seasons. Well, he kept 6 WRs in 2010 and he kept 8 WRs last year. So 7 this year! Smile (just joking with this logic for 7). If He had mentioned that Shanny has kept only 5 at times in Denver, then Campbells argument for 5 would make a tad bit more sense, but just a tad since he didn't go back to Bronco days with the OL.

Given the receiver candidates we have, I just don't see only 5, but I have decided to stop saying "no way" with Shanny.

Here's a case for five - Garcon, Hank, Santana (slot), Morgan, Briscoe with Crawford as you primary PR (Moss as back up). Paul as your KOR.

That's a only case for 5, but here's why you would most likely win a bet saying "no way." Between AR, AAA, and BB, you lose that straight downfield speed. Garcon is fast, but the other three are blazers. At least one of those guys is staying. I have two so far for 7 slots.

Chris Cooley willing to take any role to stay with Redskins

Quote:
With Fred Davis emerging at tight end for the Redskins and his 2011 season ruined by injury, Chris Cooley knows that he isn’t going to be playing his familiar role for the Redskins this season.

He seems to be fine with that development, as evidenced by his willingness to play fullback in the team’s preseason opener because they were short on healthy bodies at the position. Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that the plan is to use Cooley in small doses this season to maximize his effectiveness without jeopardizing his health.

“I absolutely can be happy with any role on this team,” Cooley said. “The Washington Redskins have played a huge part in my life. I daily feel like I want to do anything I can do for this team. I owe this organization a lot. The only thing I want to do is win. I want to win on this team. That’s the only thing I haven’t been able to do.”

We will likely find out if Cooley is willing to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to doing whatever it takes to remain in Washington. Cooley is set to make $3.8 million this season, which is quite a bit for a player who is going to be used in small doses. A pay cut seems like an inevitability if Cooley is going to stay with the Redskins through the rest of 2012.

How Many Cornerbacks are you keeping?

This article is saying 6 slots, but he has only chosen Hall and Wilson so far.

Good luck on your 53! At this isn't easy this early and I gues it won't be any easier later on.

I'm going with five corners and five safeties

DeAngelo Hall, Kevin Barnes, Josh Wilson, Richard Crawford, and Cedric Griffin at CB with Tenard Jackson, Brandon Meriweather, Madeiu Williams, DeJon Gomes, and Reed Doughty at safety

Grant Paulsen‏@granthpaulsen

I could definitely see the #Redskins keeping 26 on offense, 24 on defense, and 3 specialists. Question is how do you form those numbers.
