Taking nominations for left guard. I'll try to come to a consensus for the top 3 and then use the run-off method in a poll.

Historians please help sort these names in terms of left or right guard. If you know a guy played predominantly on the right side, please flag him. Remember, we need a starter and a back-up at every position.

If I missed someone important, please nominate.

Paul Laaveg
Terry Hermeling

Fred Dean
Russ Grimm
Ray Brown
Raleigh McKenzie

Save yourself the time, and just give it to Russ Grimm now. Move on to a position that is actually debatable.

Thanks.

At least that was helpful.

I still need to know which of the guys on my list are right guards and not left. For some reason I thought May was predominantly a RT but whateva. I'll check that one.

Can some "old-timers" please help. I get the hole Grimm thing (duh) but we still need a back-up at LG and I need to know who belongs on the ballot.

Thanks.

Here's the list of guards, left and right and perhaps Mark May depending what I find concerning where he played most.

I got the original list off a site I found for Redskin rosters by year. I then cross checked against pro-footballreference.com and got this:

LGs:
Ray Schoenke
Paul Laaveg
Ron Saul
Russ Grimm
Ray Brown
Derrick Dockery
Kory Lichtensteiger

RGs:
Randy Thomas
*Raleigh McKenzie - spent 5 seasons each at LG, C, and RG !!!
*Tre Johnson - spent equal time at LG and RG

xTerry Hermeling - mostly a LT, only 2 years at RG
xFred Dean - gone

Mark May was predominantly a RT.

I need a consensus on the top 3 LGs so I can run a poll run-off style to establish the top 2 LGs (a starter and a back-up) in Redskin history. I lean (chronologically) toward ...

Ray Schoenke,
Russ Grimm, and
Ray Brown.

Unless I hear some strong arguments I'm gonna start the LG poll in a few days with these 3.

Grimm by a mile, Thomas next. What is Dockery doing up there? Lichtensteiger?
