Roy Helu - RB - Redskins

The Washington Post expects Roy Helu (toe) to have a role this season "as long as he's healthy."

Those are the famous last words when it comes to Helu, but he's tentatively expected to be 100 percent for camp. Helu is much better suited for the Redskins' third-down role than plodder Evan Royster, but coach Mike Shanahan won't hesitate to go with rookie Chris Thompson (ACL) if he likes what he sees in camp. At least for the moment, Helu is the favorite for third-down duties.

Roy Helu - RB - Redskins

Roy Helu (toe, Achilles') was able to cut sharply by the end of OTAs.

Helu's health is peaking at the right time. Noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson cleared him for full practice in June and he should be a full go when the Redskins open camp. If Helu is 100 percent, he'd be a nice speed complement and pass-catching option behind Alfred Morris.

“I’m real excited about Roy. He’s looked healthy since he came back and he showed that to all you guys versus Tennessee,” Shanahan said. “He helped us a lot his rookie year and we didn’t get him last year because he wasn’t healthy. You could see he fought it all through training camp. Even when he was trying to play, he wasn’t the same guy and he looked like the guy that we know and that you guys have seen last week during that game. Roy is a legit back. He can help us a lot. He can do a little bit of everything. He’s a little different than [running back Alfred Morris]. He’s definitely a faster running back than [Morris]. He’s good out of the backfield. He’s got good hands, and I think he can really complement [Morris] and help him out.”

Seeing as there isn't much else to do....What does everyone think of Helu now in his few touches as a 3rd down back?

I am just blabbing to myself aren't I? You have people like Darth and a few others.... Then you have silence. The people who thought Helu wasn't the answer wont admit it?

He's done a good job, when they've used him, which has only really been in two games.

They would be smart to throw to him.more. he had a ton of catches as a Rook... I remember a sure fire td Morris dropped that I knew he would've scored on. Helus speed is nice, and jumping over defenders is fun.. its a good one two combo for sure. I still like Royster but he doesn't compliment Morris as much because they are too similar. I hope we get something for him vs cutting him- guess we shall see.

But ill take the pill, I've preferred Royster, but Helu is better suited for THIS roll
