Linebackers...
Anybody see the linebacker rankings on cbssportsline? Our Grade-A trio includes Trotter at 13, Armstead at 23, and Arrington at...you guessed it 24...Bringing up the rear. Guess discipline isn't that important, eh guys. I bet that your rankings were different last year with Lewis whipp'n your @ss.
I told Kevin Mitchell about the rumors of Armstead and Trotter maybe being released at the end of the year and he hadn't heard it before. He said it would be the dumbest thing to do in the offseason. I told that if we did, we should bring him back and he would start. He then got a big smile on his face.

I'm telling you right now... no way Trotter is leaving... and Kevin Mitchell probably smiled because he knows it.
Trotts signed a 7 year deal with a $7 mil signing bonus, and he also reworked his contract this year to free up cap space in 2003. With only 2 mil of the SB paid, it would cost MORE than 5 million bucks to cut him. Even if we cut him after June 1, we'd be looking at cap hits of close to 3 million in both 2004 and 2005.
So why bother?
We need at least one more season out of him... probably two before it's even affordable to cut him.
You can't just cut people in the modern era of the NFL... there is a salary cap to consider. And dead cap space has been kicking our ass for long enough.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

the cap really bothers me. this "3 year" plan is cap heavy, after that we will be forced to re tool the roster, but the part that really bothers me is that we aren't even making a "run" for the SB, seems we are running from it. once again this falls back to the front office, no gm to make FOOTBALL DECISIONS

I believe Trotter will continue to improve and have a great season next year...provided we get him some support up front.
I absolutely agree with this. It takes a full year to heal from the injury he had so next year....he's gonna be a terror!

I agree on the injury front - but unless you get him playing north south instead of east west you are NOT going to see the numbers you expect.

do any of you think that the current system is to allow the three LBs to roam as they choose and make plays or do you think it calls for gap and zone responsiblities?
I say the later and that Edwards, Collins and SS don't have the nads to blast LA, Trotter and Jesse for free-lancing.

God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
