That year that we won the Superbowl and went 0-4 in the preseason did we have over 14 new players to evaluate??

Breakdown of what preseason means:
Management: Hmmmmm What did we pay for? We want our fans to keep paying for seats and misc....
Coaches: Who will we use in the season to keep management and fans happy?
Players: I really want to make this team. I have bills to pay.(Which is BS)
Fans: Do I really like the Skins hmmmm.. Makebe I Like Vick and the Falcons better. Because I like what they are doing down there. I will pay $330.00 for Vick Authentic jersey instead of Baily.(see management)
Although its not that bad. I do know where you guys are coming from when you say preseason doesn't mean alot. The question is, to who |

More than that--according to the Post that year (7/18/82 and 9/12/82) the team had 118 players to evaluate going into camp and at the opening of the season "[t]here are 17 different names on the roster this year compared with the opening game last season." |

Great thread guys!
I would agree that maybe it's better to drop some games in preseason evaluating, etc.
That'll make us just that much more hungry when the regular season starts against 6 playoff teams from last year. It's gonna be a damn tough season.
On my wish list are some form of a running game (utilizing that new and improved 0-line), a defense that can stop the run (that we finally had last year w/ Gardner) and special teams that don't make bone-headed plays (I can't remember when the last time this happened). If we can have just a little of those things, I think we'll be successful (9-7) and all the rest is just details. |

That is out of my scope because I was a Steelers fan and rooted for the Raiders on occasion back then . Back in 84 when I relocated to Virginia, I found my team and now I think I will retire with them. |
