Today Barry Sanders spoke to the media for the first time since his retirement in 1999. He is promoting his new book.

Quote:
"Even had I retired in a more-graceful way, it still would've been taken the wrong way by a lot of people because I retired after 10 years," Sanders said. "The issue was not how I retired, but when I retired."

And it's a shame 'cause man was he sweet to watch or what?

Imagine if he'd had a line to run behind?

Barry used to have to beat two guys just to get back to the line of scrimmage.

Only Barry Sanders could have an 80 yard run for a 5 yard gain.

He was awesome.

sad, he was all over emmitt.... if he had stuck around, emmitt would still be playin catch-up, with no hopes of ever reaching the mark....

Sabean (sp?) had callers call in and say who they thought had or would leave the game in a better manner, Emmitt or Barry. He chose Emmitt and dogged Barry for leaving the Lions in a lurch at the draft the year he decided to retire. I say Emmitt who hurt the pukes for years with his denial and now he's hurting the Cardinals after convincing them he's got something left or can at least sell some tickets.

Hopefully some bad-ass like Priest Holmes or even Ricky Williams can stick around long enough to break Emmitt's record.
