I did like the bottom part of this article where Pierce says that Washington will have every chance to sign him last.

Well......

Pierce is totally removed from the "Core Redskin" list.

I like him and he is talented....but a "Core Redskin", in my opinion, does not care what another team values him at. He should want to be here. I was afraid he would do this after reading some of his comments a month ago where he said he should be given his true value....

I would like to see him stay, but one good year does not make him Mike Singletary, or some other icon.

I feel the same way about Samuels. He is good, but I am not sure we should put a lot of money into him.

would you work at a company if they were going to pay you 40,000 as opposed to going to work for another company where they will pay you 60,000. It isn't like pierce has millions of dollars to his name. As hard as he has worked, he deserves to finally reap the rewards of a nice sized contract. you can't fault him for that.

God, I hate Chris Samuels. Maybe if he'd give up some money because he is absolutely useless then maybe we could re-sign Pierce.

Geez! This is a very good football player AND he's a Redskin. Please wait until we have all the details before "throwing him under the bus" because you think you know what's going on.

I hope he is on our team next year and we can get things sorted out soon so we can get the rumors about this deal behind us.

What makes you guys think that the players should want to play for the Redskins for less money than what other teams may offer them. When was the last time any of you turned down more money from somebody. Most of these men have families to think of and we all know football is a business. Grow up. As soon as one of these guys hurts a knee we all know teams will low ball them if they get an offer at all. This is not the 1970's anymore. Some of these guys will have problems with their bodies for the rest of there lives. We should be glad that at least Pierce said that he would give the Redskins a chance to match. That probably hurts his market value. Most teams want you to sign on the spot. This may scare some teams away thinking they are just being used. Smoot on the other hand is not assuring the Redskins anything. Who's to say that he wont get 13 million or more up front thrown his way. That's a lot more than the 10 million up front that the skins have offered. He shouldn't turn down 3 extra million in the bank. He would be a fool to do it. Grow up people, the only guys that acccept less money are the veteran guys that get cut late in the off season and have fewer options available.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. These player's skills are actually worth upwards of eight-digit contracts, and to think that they should take significantly less than they are worth "for the team" is a bit foolish.

I don't happen to think that Smoot is worth more than the offer that we've given him. But, I don't see some other team waving 13 mil under his nose this offseason--so it seems a bit early to me to be writing him off. I think that Samuels should restructure since he hasn't played up to his potential (even he has admited to this). I'd love to see him come back.

As for Pierce, he's doing more than you could ever ask a player to do. What unrestricted free agent allows his own team to try and come up with an equivalent offer?? If that isn't taking one for the team, I don't know what is. Let's face it--this guy has worked harder than almost anyone else out there for the last 4-5 years. He wasn't some no name guy that stepped into the defense and got lucky that Williams was there. Pierce has worked himself into the big bucks--and he wants to let the Redskins know that they shouldn't take advantage of him. Until proven otherwise, he's still a core Redskin in my book.

What everybody is saying is right...This is an undrafted Free Agent...he's made the league minimum for most of his career...and now he has a chance to set himself for life. I'm sorry...but I can't knock that.

Now if one of our well paid star's like LaVar starts whining about money....then I'll take exception with them...but in this case...the man's just trying to provide for his family...not just for the next 5 years or so..but for the remainder of their lives.

The title is really misleading if you read the full article. The article made me depressed. He has 5 days to get a deal done. I hope he finally gets a new contract. It would help us and him in many ways. That 5 day deadline has me worried.

Pierce wants money, i as a redskisn fan want pierce back more than smoot, smoot can be replaced there arent any shut down corners left in the NFL anyway, we can aquire samari rolle or something, but how hard is it to find a solid middle linebacker, Pierce has sat the bench for 3 years and when he got his chance he proved himself worthy , I think he is worth the big bucks

Plus too many fans seem to live and die by what ESPN, the Times and Post say each day. We are not privy to the conversations between players, their agents and the team. Wait until a player has actually accepted or declined a contract offer before passing final judgement. I think general managers and agents drop little "unnamed source" information to the press to fuel the fire anyway. So much of it is trash.

Hey guys I've been reading these boards for a while now and I finally want to chime in. Remember that the thing about Pierce is that he replaced an injured Barrow. Yes, Barrow missed the entire season due to the tendenitis, but don't write him off just yet. He was a monster MLB in NY and if he could get back to that same level, then that would be awesome. Also, everyone he's ever played with have called him one of the most fit guys for his age. It isn't time to panic yet. And about Smoot, please he's listening to Chump way too much. How times did Chump get burned terribly this past year? And how any times did he get burned in Washington when he was actually thrown to? Ok, he did provide some playmaking skills in terms of INT's, but I would much rather have a corner that plays a man well and takes calculated risks rather than stupid decisions. Smoot should not get more than what the skins offered in my opinion. We also have Walt Harris in place to be a number 2 corner and the staff loved Garnell Wilds and he's developing. I've seen him play many many games in college and he has the tools to develop into a decent nickelback. Landing Samari Rolle in free agency would be ridiculous, especially given that he would be a high priced FA and our cap situation is not too good. He also has character issues (ie: beating his wife).

Welcome to the board VT, I wish you had an opinion or something :0). You make a good point about Barrow - he may have something left in the tank, he got a good size check for doing next to nothing last year too - maybe we see if he can earn some of that cash?
