With young punter Derrick Frost struggling, the Redskins are hoping to bring in veteran Toby Gowin for a workout today. Gowin, 31, averaged 41.2 yards in eight seasons with three teams before being out of the NFL last year. Gowin was cut by Jacksonville on Aug. 14.
"The ball's in my court," said Frost, still plagued by the inconsistency that troubled him last year. "I just need to play well. If I do, I'll be here. If I don't, I probably won't." ... |

If both him and Frost suck at punting its a tie. If Toby can kick off further than Frost he's got the job. |

| now Frost will be crushing the ball, they'll keep him, he'll cost us a game, and he'll be gone... he's been consistently inconsistent since he got here... let's get rid of him now and get a punter who can punt... let Hall kickoff, if he's not healthy enough to that then get rid of him too... they've already opted to punt twice this preseason from inside the 35 instead of "risking" Hall on a long field goal... and poth ounts ended up in the endzone... if our kicker can't hit long field goals occasionally and our punter can't kill the ball inside the 20, that's not exactly a formula for success... sorry, venting... |

Give Gowin the job.
How could he be any worse? |

Yeah, but after you've kicked the darn thing Derrick, it's supposed to land in the other guy's court. |

After he punts, it's usually under someone's bench. |

| According to Foxsports, he's never punted in a regular season game. He has however punted in playoff games 39 times for an average of 39.8 yds. |

The problem is that football is not played on a court ... no wonder he's so confused!

| Hey what about this Travis Dorsch the GIants released... Word is he had a great camp and outperformed Feagles for the most part, but the Giants opted for the experienced guy... Dorsch has averaged nearly 45 yards a kick with a long of 60, a couple inside the 20 and no touchbacks... dude is 6'6", 222 and his brother/agent says he wants to try out for the 'Skins, but Indy is the only team that's called... gotta be worth a look... |

| Quote: | Redskins | E. Johnson can't finish practice
Tue, 29 Aug 2006 21:31:53 -0700
Jason LaCanfora, of the Washington Post, reports P Eddie Johnson was released after he could not complete his first practice with the Washington Redskins Tuesday, Aug. 29. Johnson said his leg felt tired after kicking so much. Johnson beat out free agent P Toby Gowin (Jaguars) in the morning workout at Redskins Park, league sources said, but the team could opt to bring Gowin back. Agent Ken Harris said Johnson kicked off and punted well in the morning. Johnson left with a large ice pack around his upper leg. "I understand 100 percent," Harris said. "I have so much respect for (special teams coach) Danny Smith and his decision." |
I know that the O and D have been holding back and not showing anything. But the kickin game is just that, kicking. I was not impressed last year (quite frustrated actually) and have seen no real improvement this year. This area may be our archilles heel if we can't find a decent, RELIABLE, CONSISTENT, and ACCURATE replacement. I just don't see those qualities in Frost.

Danny Smith needs to wake the heck up. My father was telling me the same thing you just posted, that there are plenty of young guys out there. Why the heck are we trying out loser after loser? |
