Donations benefit Capital Area Food Bank
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals and Talk Radio 3WT hosted a canned food drive at the Caps game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Verizon Center on Nov. 2, to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. The drive yielded more than half a ton of food, with Caps fans giving 1,221 pounds of food and donating nearly $1,000 in cash. In total, nearly 4,000 meals will be provided with donations collected by the Caps.
Capitals players’ wives Kim Clark, Danielle Johnson, Chelsea Pettinger and Didi Steckel greeted fans at the F Street entrance along with volunteers from the Capital Area Food Bank. Fans who provided nonperishable food or monetary donations received a poster featuring Caps captain and canned food drive spokesman Chris Clark along with a voucher for discounted tickets for an upcoming Capitals game.
“I really enjoyed volunteering at the food drive with the Capitals,” said Capital Area Food Bank Chief Operating Officer Brian Smith. “I was happy to see that so many people were interested in supporting our organization. We are excited about our growing partnership with the Washington Capitals and look forward to working together on future food drives.”
The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest public nonprofit food and nutrition resource in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Last year, the Capital Area Food Bank distributed 20 million pounds of food, including six million pounds of fresh produce, to more than 700 partner agencies. The Capital Area Food Bank has served the National Capital region for 27 years.
