Agent: Jags make Stroud available

Postby andyjens89 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 2:55 pm

Stroud, who came back from microfracture ankle surgery to play last year, is available to teams that might want to trade for him, John Clayton reports.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus, speaking on ESPN;s "First Take", said he was contacted by the Jaguars Thursday and told Stroud could be traded. The 29-year-old defensive tackle has played seven seasons with the Jaguars. Stroud has been considered the anchor of the defense along with defensive tackle John Henderson.

Since the days Tom Coughlin coached the Jaguars, Stroud and Henderson have been the backbone of the defense.

In 2005, Stroud signed a five-year, $29.353 million contract that lasts through 2010. He started nine games last season and had 22 tackles. He was the 13th pick in the 2001 draft and has been to three Pro Bowls for the Jaguars.

I can't think of anyone that has ever had microfracture surgury on a foot or an ankle and returned to play at a high level. I can't imagine a DT ever being right after that.

$6 million/yr is too big a cap hit for such a medical question mark.
