Newest McShay pick off ESPN insider

21. Washington Redskins -- Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Record: 9-7 | Needs: WR, S, DE, OT, CB
Previous mock selection: Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
The Redskins' top priority is adding a playmaking receiver to the roster. There projects to be a run of wide receivers in the bottom half of the first round, so the Redskins should get involved here before they get shut out. Thomas might not have the ideal size Washington is looking for, but he's a well-built wide out with strong hands and excellent run-after-catch ability.

If Hardy is still available, taking Thomas is a mistake. Apparently the consensus is that Sweed will be gone.

I agree with McShay that it should be a receiver in the 1st, but I'd take Kelly or Hardy over this guy, if either is there of course.

No way should we take a WR in the first round. NO freaking way!

The NFL is about line play...pick a pass rushing strong side DE, a DT, or the best OL available at #21. We might even get the best OG at 21.

WR's take too long to develop...and you just never know if they'll make it -- don't forget, Desmond Howard & Michael Westbrook!

We need depth, not starters at S. I don't see CB as a major need. We need OG much more than OT. The only backup OG on roster is Geisenger unless Alexander switches to OL. We could use either a DE or DT who can put some pressure on the QB.

Looks like McShay has changed his mind. Is his newest mock he has us taking Sweed.

The Redskins top priority is to add a playmaker at wide receiver. There projects to be a run of wide receivers in the bottom half of the first round, so the Redskins should get involved here before they get shut out. Sweed has been bothered by a nagging wrist injury but has an impressive blend of speed and size.

He has Kelly going 19th to the Eagles and Thomas 28th to Dallas.

Mayock has bumped Thomas up to the #1 WR prospect this year. I still think Thomas, Sweed or Kelly would be just fine.

I agree. I would like to know a little more about Kelly's knees, but he didn't miss games because of that at Oklahoma so it can't be that big of a problem.

Agree with you two also. I also was amused how earlier he said Devin Thomas doesn't have "ideal size"..Thomas is 6'2", 220. He's bigger than Clinton Portis...

It's because of the uncertainty. He didn't workout at the combine so now the "experts" are dropping him down on their draft boards. All of this injury talk is premature since he's going to do individual workouts for teams and their medical staffs will be thorough with him I'm sure.

I agreed that taking a Wide Reciever like Thomas would be a big mistake. Either Sweed or a DE. I think we can get a good WR in the second round. I like Hardy.

Some now have Thomas ranked as the #1 WR prospect in this years draft. Yeah, I guess taking the #1 rated WR would be a big mistake. <sarcasm>

Hardy won't be available by the time the Skins pick in the 1st round if Kelly's knees actually turn out to be an issue.

Kelly's knee injury is becoming greatly exaggerated. In his entire college career, he only missed part of one game due to a knee injury. That was the 2006-2007 season Fiesta Bowl. He played the entire 2007 season with no problems. Then he suffered a quad pull in this years bowl game and is why he didn't workout at the combine. Some are saying his stock "may" drop simply because he hasn't worked out yet. Once he works out, his stock should be fine. His former knee problem was from his sophomore season and he only missed part of one game.
