We need as many picks as possible to ensure that the wizards we have working with Cerrato can give this team about 5 or 6 players (from the 9 picks we have now) that can help this team by either starting sometime this year or be being good enough to make the team.

We are not going to be as competitive a team as we would like this year but we will be next year if we have 2 very good drafts and add some free agents. By competitive, I mean dominating, not just beating the giants like we did last time we played them Laughing

BTW - I think we are a playoff team right now but we need to keep adding the depth at positions of need both now and for next year. Getting 1 very good player is not worth getting 4 or more good players who could become very good players soon. That is what Cerrato and his bunch are going to be able to do here ..... or so they say Rolling Eyes

Yeah, our team is getting older. If you look at the 22 starters, Campbell, Landry and McIntosh are the only young guys. That's not bad necessarily, but we need a serious infusion of young backups. It would be nice if this time next year we are talking about how our 2nd year DL, CB and WR are all going to be major contributers in 2009.

A nice article about how inexact grading draft talent is. they look at the draft class of 2005, the grades those players were given then and compare them to the grades those same players are given now, three years later. Very informative.

Doughty is young, so is Rogers. On "O" Cooley is young. Moss, ARE & Portis aren't ready for social security either.

Yeah, was just talking about guys from one of our last couple of drafts. Wouldn't call Doughty a starter just yet.

Stephon Heyer is the perfect example of how to build depth. We're getting there.

Like Fleetus said, it's probably a little early to be calling Doughty a starter. ARE is moving to the slot and isn't even a starter right now. Moss will turn 29 before the season starts and while CP is only 26, he has already been in the NFL for 6 years and that's a lot of wear and tear for a running back. Both have played a lot of football in their careers and have been having injury problems the last few seasons.

Our offensive line doesn't have anybody under 30 years of age and when the season starts the average age of those players will be 32.

On the defensive line Daniels is 35 and Griffin will turn 32 before the season ends. Carter will be 29 when the season starts.

Add in Fletcher (33 when season starts), Smoot (29), Springs (33), Washington (turns 31 during the season), Thrash (33 when season starts), and Sellers (33 when season starts), and you're looking at one of the oldest teams in the NFL.

Well, until someone takes his job, he IS our starter.

I don't see anyone jumping on a "Start Vernon Fox" bandwagon.
Maybe Manfred Mann just didn't get to it yet.

Umm, there is a draft next week where we have 9 picks, then there will be June 1st cuts where there are sure to be some veteran safeties to be had, as there always are. Rolling Eyes Doughty will have to beat someone in camp to earn a starting job.

As of now, no safeties have been signed, so as of now, he's the starting safety. When the circumstances change, then they change, but as of today, he's still starting.

As many of us have realized for a few months Rolling Eyes

We need to get younger and add depth - we need as many draft picks as we can get in this and the next draft - we need a blend of old/experienced players and the young/maturing players - we are a little unalanced right now but we have 9 picks coming and if possible we should get more if you ask me Laughing
Cerrato and his bunch are apparently really, really good at finding talent so I am eager to see the fruits of his labors next Saturday and Sunday.

This is a win/win situation - IF we have a great draft we will be better off next season (2009) as we continue the growth that began under Gibbs Wink IF we have a terrible draft we will get rid of Cerrato and that would be a huge boost for our future. Laughing

There is a draft in eight days.
The Redskins have nine draft selections as of today.
The Redskins may not have nine draft selections as of April 26th, 2008.
The Redskins have not listed "a starting safety" as a top priority.
The Redskins have listed "a safety" as a depth need.
There may or may not be a safety available after the June 1st cuts.
If the Redskins draft a safety, why would they also sign one after June 1st?
Have you been reading more B.S. from JLC?
Who says Reed Doughty will have to beat anyone in camp to earn the starting job he already has?

For the 100th time the Washington Redskins had NO GROWTH under Joe Gibbs.

Vinny Cerrato's job is to try and inspire growth on a team which clearly went backwards during Gibbs' miserable tenure.
