Looks like the Skins are just doing their due diligence as Mendenhall is likely going to be gone by the time that we pick in the first round. |

We also don't need a RB. It makes no sense to me. |

We also didn't need a qb last offseason but the team still brought Russell in for a workout. And if a guy like Mendenhall falls to the Skins at 21 it would be very hard to pass him up. If he's still there when we pick perhaps we can trade down with a team that wants him. Either way it makes sense to get a look at as many players as possible before the draft. |

What happened to drafting the best talent on the board? |

I don't think anything happened to drafting the best talent available.
There is more than one way to look at that.
You can draft the best player available.
You can draft the best player available at a position of team need.
Drafting the best available player could be due to a weak draft.
Drafting the best available player could be due to a pre-arranged trade.
It could be for a trade up or for a trade down.
Drafting the best available player could also be to prevent another division team from acquiring the player. I would think it would have to be one incredibly gifted player for this scenario because a team isn't likely to carry extra players at a full roster position.
Of course, the team could also conceivably cut a veteran to make room.
Drafting the best available player at a position of team need I would think needs no explanation.
So many possibilities, so many things to praise or blame Vinny Cerrato for at a future date.

There is also a bunch of posturing going on right now. Teams are blowing smoke, bluffing and perhaps trying to divert others attention. That and due diligence makes this not a big deal, imo. |

That is really only part of the story In today's NFL if you "draft the best player available" and he does not fit your team you are drafting someone that is of value to you only if you can move him for a player or players that can help your team.
most teams today will try and trade that pick IF there is a player available that another team wants OR a player that some team is worried might not be there when they pick.
IF we are picking at #21 and the FO feels there is nobody that can start for us and make this team better, then I hope we trade the pick for more picks for players that Cerrato and his bunch have selected that can help this team. |

So what would you do with him? He would be 3rd string at best right now, and we have so many other needs. |

I believe in drafting the player who will help the team the most. |

Reshard is an excellent running back. I actually think he would compete for the starter spot if we picked him up. His body is already NFL ready. He probably is the most ready out of all the prospects. He is 5-10 230lbs and is built like a mack truck. He also runs a 4.4 and is a bruiser.
We are not picking him up though due to the fact we have two good backs and have many other needs. I like him though. |

| This would be a wasted pick in my opinion if we drafted a RB. |

At this time there are many teams looking at players that they have no chance at drafting. There are many, many reasons for this. They might think he might end up on a team they play. They might be interested in gaining some info about him for the future. They might want to clarify something that one of their scouts brought up.
They might just want some information
There is a lot of mis-information going on and a lot of mis-leading moves being made all over the NFL. There is 2 weeks to go before the draft
The draft is such a crap-shoot. Why do you think that so many of the first 15 picks are not as good as perceived and so many of the next 45 picks are so much more successful than those first 15? Because the guys who are meant to know do not have really good input.
If the team has the time why not check out all the players you can.
Knowledge is power. Learning whatever you can about players you might select is only a little more valuable than knowledge about players on other teams, especially if that player is on a divisional rival's roster |

| Or they might want other teams that are behind them in the draft to want to trade up to try and get him |
